electric hatch lift
Mine having a bit of some issues.
Looking for another that is in better shape |
Re: electric hatch lift
After looking at the "Original Parts List" and seeing the cost and availability of the unit , I'd take some measurements and hit Ebay or Great Lakes Skipper for one :)

Re: electric hatch lift
my winter projects include the rebuild of the rear sear. Im doing away with the horse shoe shaped rear sear and making it straight across, moving the whole seat forward about 15". so actually I will need a longer throw or Ill have to mount it higher on the back of the seat to get the same lift.
I saw the ones that great lake skipper has. Ill give them a call tomorrow. |
Not sure if these are the same, but here are the hatch lifts that I have had my eye on. I get very impatient waiting 5 minutes(slightly exaggerated!) for my hatch lift to open.

Re: electric hatch lift
they too work. It's just the $300 price tag for a 15-18 extension thats killing me.

And that is why I still haven't replaced mine!

I looked at the ones you mentioned on Great Lakes and wow....what a difference in price! Somehow I have to figure out how to measure mine when it's closed to see how much throw I will need. Does anyone know if these will operate faster than the original worm gear motors from the factory?

Re: electric hatch lift
Hatch lifts are like power windows Chris. The older they get the slower they go(Kinda like me LOL). The motor gets tired and dirty.
New one , or ones depending on your app will run way faster and way smoother and quieter too. |
Lol...I know what you mean about the getting old and slow thing! Thanks Colorado and Oregon for the assistance!

Re: electric hatch lift
Mine is 18" closed. dont know what the throw is, but Im guessing at least 12". Frankly it doesnt open as far as Id like it to now, so I may re-mount it closer to the hinge.
I was told that a simple relay box, putting direct battery juice closer to the ram speeds them up. VPA SPDT Relays with Wiring Sockets 80238 - SummitRacing.com http://www.cpperformance.com/p-13440...tor-relay.aspx |
Re: electric hatch lift
Really? A relay box will help? I wouldn't think that the electrical current would decrease that dang much, but I guess it does. Guess I will see after I get them installed..As long as it takes less than a full minute to open I will be happy! :wink_thumbup:

Re: electric hatch lift
me too. Im pulling mine apart this week, cleaning and lubing it all. Gonna build a relay box of sorts and wire it in. hoping for the best.
my other problem is that Im rebuilding the rear seat, getting rid of the horseshoe shape and going with a straight back seat. thus extending the center section forward approx 15". Ill be then extending the sun deck 15" as well, which will increase the weight of it. Ive thought about just installing some compressed air lifts on both sides and be done with it....maybe both i dont know as of yet |
Re: electric hatch lift
Compressed air rams? Awesome! So are you mounting the compressor in that 15" area?
|
Re: electric hatch lift
No...Im talking about those compressed air lift assists like these :

HA Ha Ha! I am such a dumb a*$! Been a long day. :)

Re: electric hatch lift
Oregon,
I believe you are spot on wrt locating battery power as close to the motor as possible. You cannot believe the amount of corrosion that takes place within a piece of wire and how much voltage loss occurs due to said corrosion and wire size. I work with electric forklifts that can easily pull 1200 Amps when lifing a load. When exposed to moisture, the corrosion can cause so much voltage drop i.e. heat that the insulation can actually melt off the wire. It is better to oversize the wire and relays so that when the corrode over time you won't experience the slowing of the motor. |
Great idea

Re: electric hatch lift
Have you looked into the Hatchmasters lifters? Mariah used them on some of the late model '00-'01 models.

Re: electric hatch lift
I have not looked at the Hatchmasters one before. Mine do not look like those at all. Mine have an electric motor that looks just like a starter that sticks out the side of the ram with a worm gear on the shaft. I took them apart 2 years ago and cleaned out the brushes and contacts really well. I am thinking now that I will just buy the relay and give that a shot.
I did check out the ones that Great Lakes has but they are too short. I need one that will extend to at least 31". |
