Mariah Junk yard

Since Mariah parts are no longer available, does anyone know of a place or website, that might be a boat salvage yard? I need the plexiglas top for
the portapotty access, OR someone who does plexiglas repair.

1997 Mariah Jubilee 214 deck boat.

ShabahZ280 09-17-2007 11:44 PM

Your best bet is to find a local fiberglass repair shop and see what they can do. Mariah parts are virtually impossible to come by anymore. Sorry!

180diablo 09-18-2007 12:37 PM

I know this won't help you at all ... but there is a boat salvage yard on the way up to my cottage... lol.

I have contemplated stopping in that place on the way north .. " just to see "

mikeyt 09-18-2007 03:41 PM

Where is the salvage yard Diablo? Is it the marine dealer (the name escapes me at the moment) just off the 400 before Barrie?

mikeyt 09-18-2007 03:44 PM

This wont help you much in Kentucky but there is a company here in Hamilton, Ont. called P & A Plastics that does some excellent custom forming & manufacturing. I would think doing a Google search for plastic repair etc might help you come up with something in your area.

TVpro 09-18-2007 05:15 PM

Thanks for the info guys. I am looking into a highly toxic solvent that actually dissolves the plexiglas, and binds it back together. Altho, I have to know wether it is truly plexiglas or not. This will not work on Lexan or other materials.

Sandycove Marine .. Innisfil? Thats where the 400 fleamarket is and there is a boat auction there frequently.

Take Hwy11 north, south of Orillia and (just) north of the Barrie Speedway if I recall correctly. Hmmm it might even be on the corner of the same turn to get into Barrie Speedway. It is on the right side of the road, you really cant miss it. There are older boats everywhere. Some look like they are for sale.

mikeyt 09-20-2007 01:19 PM

That's it!

Actually i sent them an email back in the early summer looking for a few small parts but all i got in response was that i would have to stop in & look around. From what i read on their website they apparently have a large selection of used parts etc so it should be a worthwhile visit one of these days.

180diablo 09-24-2007 01:38 PM

Yeah to get into Barrie Speedway you have to pass that yard. They sit side by side. I made sure to take note of it this weekend... lol. I think it used to be a old privately owned burger joint..lol.

What is the name of the place and the webpage link?

mikeyt 09-24-2007 06:06 PM

http://www.sandycovemarine.com/about/index.php

180diablo 09-25-2007 12:11 PM

I was talking about the name of the boat scrapyard.. :D

Yeah there is a huge inventory of old used stuff upstairs in Sandy cove. I have purchased a few items there for my boat from Sandycove (not from the used however). Walked around upstairs some years ago and there is just random everything. Bins, bins and more bins of stuff.

mikeyt 09-25-2007 12:35 PM

When i read their blog at that website link i kinda understood that it was them who owned the 'scrapyard'. hmmmmm, i'm gonna have to be nosy one of these weekends.

Yeah they are open all year round as well. I have the hours at home, for some silly reason I don't think they put the hours on the webpage.

I just read their "about us" blog and I think they are just talking about the stuff they have in the used parts area. Im pretty sure that the boat auctions on the other corner (by the 400 flea market) are done by them also or they submit some older boats there for auction.

mikeyt 09-25-2007 04:53 PM

After re-reading it, me thinks you're right. I'm still gonna have to be a little nosy one of these weekends....

180diablo 09-25-2007 11:39 PM

Unless they added the hours for Sandy Cove's webpage recently, im posting the hours on here for future use (and that way I can toss out the piece of paper on my desk)... LOL

SandyCove Marine, Hwy400 Innisfil.

April to Sept
Mon to Thurs - 9 - 6
Friday - 9 - 7
Sat - 9 - 4
Sun - 12 - 4

Sept to March
Mon to Fri - 9 - 5

There .. now its stickified .. sorta. lol.

mikeyt 09-26-2007 04:48 PM

Looks like it's gonna have to be a Mon - Fri nosiness then. :rolling_laugh:

Ryan & Mike, being the local 'Barrie' MOC member a few things to clarify for others.

The BOATHOUSE (Hwy 11 & 8th Line of ORO, North of Barrie, South of Orillia) is a rough marine junk yard. No Mariah boats, I also looked last year. I tried to find an old swimplatform form them with no success a month ago. The owner is 'Rae' 705-487-0434, very low tech, but here is his email [email protected]. There thing seems to be replacing old engines, stern drives and odd parts. Last time I was there they had old engines everywhere. Was interested in moving up from my Merc 4.3LX...5.0 - 5.7, $3500 for a swap?

As for Sandycove marine, the upstairs fleamarket is lots of old chapperal biminis, misc covers, props, gauges, etc, etc. I've been searching there for parts for my Swim Platform project... stainless steel braces, ladders, etc.

If your dropping by, give me a call. A new Tim's / Shell is on the corner as you exit the 400 at Innisfil Road, it would be great to meet you and talk Mariahs.

mikeyt 03-24-2008 02:22 PM

Hi Vern

Thanks for the update. I never did get around to driving up there & checking the place out but now that you've done it i wont waste my time stopping there. $3500 for an engine swap seems a little steep though. I make 4 or 5 trips up thru that area on the way to the family cottage each season so i'll try & make time for a coffee at Tim's.

Another guy i've spoken to on the phone (& met his wife) works for Pride Marine in the Gravenhurst area. They used to be a Mariah dealer and he's been able to locate a few original Mariah parts in their inventory storage area. He said he was sure there were more items stored there but it would have to wait til he had time to go through things. I've offered to come up & spend a day going thru his inventory. :) He has put a few items up on E-Bay under the username "Muskokanut" so if you see his offerings you will know who he is. I'm going to touch base with him again in the near future to see what he's found hidden away....

Ahhhh ok. That explains where he was getting all that stuff. Well, if it is a weekend that I'am up north, I would help go through the storage area on a Saturday that im not working. Now that April is drawing near, probably a weekend in the middle of April we would venture back up north to take a lookie @ the condition of the cottage from this winter. If not, then a few weekends in May I would certainly be up there cleaning up the Diablo.

Interesting that they are no longer a Mariah Dealer. I think about 2 summers ago we were up there checking out new boats and even then, the sales guys weren't even recommending us buy a new Mariah boat. They wanted us to drive out with a Crownline kinda thing. I guess they dropped the Mariah name sometime last year? Hmm.

180diablo 03-24-2008 03:20 PM

Ok this is completely off topic w/ the thread. But it looks like Pride has also taken over another small marina where we have visited once before. I'am almost 100% that is the former New Ark marina. The grounds look identical to what I remember.

http://www.pridemarinegroup.com/cust...f_muskoka_west

I remember looking at a used Glastron boat while I was there.

EDIT: Did you notice that the Mariah on Prides webpage is SOLD! heh

VernB63 03-24-2008 04:02 PM

Hi Mike, I've also spoke to 'Muskokanut'... he was looking into the swim platform thing for me. The new location of Pride Marine is the old New Arc Marine... this is where I found my Mariah in Aug 06. Gallary pic's.

For now, waiting like all good Canadians for the winter freeze to go away before we can begin a search in the marina backyards for missing trinkets. Drop me a line when you're driving through Barrie and have time.

Take care,

"Muskokanut' also goes by the handle 'heasoon' on e-bay.

vega,
after months of searching, I think I will have to repair mine instead of replacing it.

If I find a vendor, I will let you know

Hi TVpro and Vega,

Have you two looked in your yellow pages for a plastics supply or Plexiglas supplier?

I get my plastics for my hobbies and the Talari from "Tap Plastics" and they can fabricate lots of things in Plexiglas and lexan (I've had them make up a few Plexi display cases for my SciFi models, the largest was 66" x 17" x 14" for a sub). They also carry fiberglass and mold making materials.

What I'm getting at is, they may be able to reproduce your broken piece. I believe your top is smoked Plexiglas with a simple "L" shape lip to it, is that right? If you want to pursue this option, let me know and send me some pictures of the top too.

WetWilly

I'll try again. Most turned me down because making just 1 item was cost prohibitive. If no joy, then I'll contact you again, and solicite your help. Thanks for your input.
