I was looking for the shield on the side. Mine developed a crack this past winter. I think I will just try to seal it so it doesn't progress any further. I think I will spend my money on more usable items like the covers, seats and, mnor hull cracks.

I wonder if I can repair my decal. The dock kind of peeled it partialy off but it is still there and intact. My speedo stopped working on me last year out of the blue. I have the pick up wheel style not the pedo tube. Is there any power that goes to it or does it get a pulse from that spinning wheel? Anyone? By the way , Thanks Wet willy for the info on the decals. I am amazed on that 100.00 winning bid on Ebay.

Hi dlpmaint,

Yes, your new speedo gauge should require power if it uses the paddle wheel. It works similar to a Tach, the spinning paddle wheel creates pulses and the gauge converts them to MPH where the pickup tube model is just a glorified air gauge, no power needed! Your installation manual for your gauge should have all the requirements.

Your welcome on the new decal info!

As for a $100 for an original shield... value can be very difficult to see for many people. It comes down to "what's it worth to you?" So if someone spend $20, $30 or even or $100 on something like these decals, well, obviously it was worth it so more power to them! As for me, my value system is a little different so I'll wait until I feel one has come into my range. Just remember, there are only so many of these floating around so when they run out, they're gone for good.

Do you know where I can get a wiring diagrahm on the original speedometer? I would like to trouble shoot this one before I go out and buy a new one. Do you
Know how to test this style with the pulse wheel?

Hi Dave,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your gauge should be made by Faria, and if it is, they do repairs for a nominal cost. As for testing the original gauge, the original speedometer uses an air tube connected to an external water pickup either on the back of your boat or from a small hole located on the leading edge of your out drive. It uses air pressure rather than electricity to function. Take a look at this thread, click here, there is a link to Faria and pictures on the out drive water pickup so it may have what you need.

We do have a wiring diagram for the 96 Mariahs, we also have a growing library of manuals, brochures and all sorts of information relevant to Mariah, the stern drives and equipment, but you need to become contributing member to access this information. Trust me, it is more than worth it, so click here to see what each level has to offer. Once you've donated, contact me and we'll get you to the diagrams ASAP!

Hi Wet Willy
I'm not sure if you got my reply earlier today. I sent it to you from work and I wasn't sure if it went out. Any way I was talking to another member and they directed me to my problem. I found my tube was disconnected at the lower out drive. The little plastic tube coupling unhooked and came off. I tested the speedometer after with some air and it worked . I also confirmed the paddle wheel is for a resetable trip meter on on the dash. I put my key in the on position and spun the wheel and sure enough the meter started counting. Thanks for your reply and help I really do appriciate it. I also replied to Chris about making a donation but I have not heard back from him yet. I have an owners manual and an operation & maintenance manual on the 4.3LX Gen+ and 4.3LXH Gen+ Alpha one. I do want to make a donation one way or another.
Thanks again!
Dave

Hi Dave,

Glad to here your speedo is working! This is what this club is all about, helping each other so we can spend more time enjoying our Mariahs!!!

As for Chris, he is very prompt so I'm sure he probably tied up right now as this is a busy time for us all, don't worry, he'll get back to you soon.

Take care,
WetWilly
