Default New Shabah 183 Owner

Hello all!

Just purchased a 1998 Shabah 183 from the original owner with only 180 original hours. It has a white hull with burgundy and gold accents and white/burgundy interior. I am very pleased so far and it is the best boat I have ever owned. The quality of craftsmanship is unsurpassed with a lot of nice bells and whistles.

The disappointing part is the Prestige trailer that came with it. Within a week of owning the boat, two out of three of the trailer cross-members rusted all the way through. The trailer is essentially worthless at this point. So, I went out and bought a very similar steel 1992 Escort Trailer that was used with a Maxum 1900 - very similar hull design and weight. The trailer is in excellent shape, matches the color of my boat, and only cost me $700. The one concern I have on the trailer is with the bunks. The original trailer had four bunks and the new trailer I bought only has two bunks.

I was wondering if anyone has had to change trailers from their original Prestige trailer. Are all 4 bunks necessary, or will 2 suffice? What is the easiest way to change the bunks to a new trailer?

Any thoughts or ideas on this are greatly appreciated. I am green horn after all.....

Cheers

Another satisfied Prestige trailer owner! They had their problems. I worked over my Prestige. If it was used near salt or brackish water that certainly didn't help the steel.
As for the bunks, 2 on a lighter boat prob won't hurt. Ideally the more surface area bunk to boat the better. Just my 2¢

Sounds like the trailer might have been used in salt or brackish water to me , and then not rinsed well or at all.
Also , is road salt or Calcium Chloride used around Tacoma? That will eat em up to.

Anyway , adding bunks isn't that big of deal as long as the cross members are in the proper place.
Kits are available at about any Marine retail store. Iboats or West Marine come to mind right now.
I'm sure some of the members with the 180 series Shabah can give you a pic or two of the placement.

My 180 Diablo came with the original Heritage trailer , it had 4 bunks that were 2"x4".
I made new bunks and used 2"x6" composite decking covered in carpet.

    BTW: Welcome to MOC!
How about some pics of your new Mariah.

I bought a trailer that did not go with my boat. It originally had two bunks. While the two bunks work just fine, I wanted two shorter outside ones for more support and stability. I made my own bong out of pressure treated board and indoor outdoor carpet. Benefit of 4 bunks is more stability when on the trailer and I found that the boat centers a lot easier when loading up as well. Just get adjustable bunk folders and you can install the bunk with the boat on the trailer. If you want a little more weight on the outside bunk you can adjust them up a quarter inch or so when the boat is unloaded.

    Dear cfoster.
    Hopefully you can support me.
I propose to purchase a Mariah Shabah 182 (1999) in UK and register it in Austria.
CE-plaque is on board, but unfortunately owner does not have CE-certifikate, which is needed to register a boat in EU.
From our authorities I was informed, that just a copy of existing CE-document would be enough, because it`s valid for whole serie. Maybe I can use as well copy from Shabah 183...
I`m realy desperate, because comp. Mariah doesn not exist any more and I have no idea, where to get such copy.
Many thanks in advance for any replys and ideas.
