Hello folks
Hi. Just joined today. Hoping to buy my first Mariah but not sure what the model is and any info on it would be very helpfull. Straight to the point, it's sat in storage for easily 8 years. Last registration for loch was 2006. Anyway, I can't find any plates or info on the boat. Just have the hull I'd number from the back. I've managed to work out is a 1993 build but Ive no idea the model. Number is MAB 02692 F293. Any help would be much appreciated. Also any clues on what it's worth. As I say I've got the chance of it but not sure what to pay. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Hello folks
Welcome to MOC Chris!
Send your HIN to "ShabahZ280" in a PM and he will give you a break down of the factory build sheet.:wink_thumbup: Look on the Coast Guard capacity tag , maybe near the shifter/dash area , it will have the model on it. Got any pics you could show us? Once again , Welcome!:) |
Re: Hello folks
Hey thanks. I'll post a pm to him. Cheers.
Coastguard plate says 18 but I thought that waste length. Duh  I'll try get some pics on soon if I buy. What would your opinion be on purchasing something thats sat for so long. |
Re: Hello folks
No big deal , just go over it good before you commit to buying.
Your going to have to figure a minimum of 500.00 to get her in shape. Tuneup , Oil Change , Belts , Drive Service , etc. Take a peak here for some good info on buying Chris. |
Re: Hello folks
Cheers for the link. I'll give it a good going over. I've previously worked on a motorcraft ( I think it was that) and the owner bought it as beached! However he ended up having to replace all the sea water seals and fit a new trim and tilt pump. Engine wise I think I could manage quite cheaply as I'm a mechanic to trade ( but just a modern day one) lol only 25years old lol. Sill Just a wean. I've been trying to research all morning and I reckon the boat in a good running state reay for summer use is worth about $4000 which in British money I'd say about £3000. So I think I'd get a decent enoch deal if I were to offer him £2000 the way it sits?

Re: Hello folks
hi Chris
If you post two or three good pics we should be able to figure out which model you are considering buying. |
Re: Hello folks
I think that if you got the boat for between £2000 to £3000 you will have done okay depending on the overall condition of the boat.

Re: Hello folks
Sounds not bad. I'll get some pics up and see what u reckon then. Still once I have the model and info that should help put hings clearer. Meant to say it has a Volvo engine with a volvo Penta outboard leg.

Re: Hello folks
Thanks Andy. Are the Volvo ones rarer or just standard run of the mill ?
|
Re: Hello folks
All joking aside they were sold as an upgrade to the merc package, and it is generally held that the Volvo SX outdrive with it's cone is a better deal than the merc Alpha 1 leg with the dog gears.
The motors on the other hand are basically the same. Although I think the Volvo is better presented than the merc (but I would say that :D) Nothing wrong with either package though if not abused! |
Re: Hello folks
So what's your view on a price I should offer for her. Obviously it's hard to say not knowing exactly what model or spec but in a ball park figure for a vessel that's sat for so long and not been run, that's sitting with moldy trim and condensation dripping from the covers. I think it's a 1993 Mariah 18 diablo bow rider and I think the engine is a 4.3 but I could be talking rubbish. ( that's just assumption going on other combos I've managed to find on google lol. Where bouts u based in Britain?

Re: Hello folks
Given that the boat is 18' its likely either a Diablo or a Barchetta from '93. An obvious difference was that the Diablo had a fairly wide rear 'sun deck' while the Barchetta's was much narrower. The Diablo was the base model for that year too.
Only the Volvo owners will tell you that theirs is better..... |
Re: Hello folks
Chris are you UK based then?
I'm down on the south coast, On the Solent. TBH, the boat market over here is on it's A$$ so you could walk away with it. All depends how much the seller wants shot of it. The 180's over here in good condition seem to sell between £6K<£8K but top money only goes to something a bit special. If as you say you've got a 93 then it's a little older than mine but still should be worth £4k+ in good condition. The thing with Mariah's over here is they are few in numbers, so when you pull up next to other boats like Maxums, Glastrons and dare I say it Binliners.... then people really notice the difference :D My 180 Diablo is a 2001 and people still think it's only a couple of years old :D As long as it's not damaged it will clean up like new, How much work is down to how bad it's been left to get into! As soon as you give us a bit more info and some pictures then I'd be happy to give you my opinion on the boat :wink_thumbup: Here's my boat http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...-07-13/me2.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...707_114904.jpg |

Re: Hello folks
To get to my local fuel berth you have to go through a lock (tidal waters remember)
There's nothing like the crash of an Alpha 1 going into gear in a confined space to remind you how nice my Volvo leg is. ;) |
