Don't have a Mariah yet,but will be going to see a 1996 shabah bowrider with a volvo SX engine which is either rebuilt or new with 2 hours on the clock, the boat has not been used for 4 Years and stored outside under covers. Asking price £6995 (11485 dollars) proposing to offer £3500 (5747 dollars) . What would be the market price for such a boat? offering £3500 am I miles out ?

First off, welcome aboard Ron. Secondly, its hard for most of us to judge pricing over in the British Isles but we have a number of guys based across the pond that might be able to offer up an opinion. Wait for AndyB to chime in....

Re: New Scottish Member
Hi there ;)
Have you got a link you can send me? If not then a few pictures might help. Can you give me a few more details like length of boat and what size engine? Happy to give you my opinion on price.....I've seen a few Mariah's both good and bad over here! What you have to remember is bottom line the boat is only worth what you're happy to pay for it. If you don't want to go public about the boat I'm happy to help via PM All the best and welcome Andy B |

Welcome to MOC Ron! :)
As mikey stated , Andy , and a few of the other members from across the big water can probably help ya more than most of us over here. Pics would definitely be a plus.:wink_thumbup: |
Re: New Scottish Member

Hi Andy, Sorry haven't been in touch but owner of the boat is away at present but will send you photos when I see the boat. The boat was in our club boatyard hidden in a corner under many covers you could not see what type of boat it was. The only thing that worries me is the fuel consumption with gas at £6 per gallon (think thats 10 dollars), so at 5 gallons per hour £30 ( 50 dollars) for a 4.3lt engine and I normally cover 50 miles per day. But on saying that I LOVE SPEED on the water. With a previous sports cruiser I use to cover 100 miles but then I was working not retired as I am now. As you can see from the attached we have a wonderful playground.

Re: New Scottish Member
What area of Scotland is that a picture of?
And speaking of Scotland.... time to go celebrate Robbie Burns and down a wee dram or two of single malt. :) |
Re: New Scottish Member
Hi Ron,
It's silly season on the forums, many people popping in/out and you never hear from them again! got'a love winter :shakehead: American Bow riders do get a bit of a bad press over here, you probably know that, but don't go confusing Mariah's with lesser boats..... Things like Glastrons/Maxims and Bay*****s can't hold a candle to the sea keeping/build quality of a Mariah. As for the fuel to feed the 4.3L personally I don't think it's that bad. mine has a 4.3L Volvo (basically the same as Merc) A lot depends on how heavy you are on the throttle  When you find out more i'l be happy to offer any help I can. And this lot are great if you need any detailed info :wink_thumbup: If you can get the HIN number they will probably be able to give you the build sheet info. My boat will do a happy 50mph and is happy to cruise round all day in the 40's  Here's a Video I shot in November, gives you an idea. My boat is a 2001 Diablo 180 with 4.3l Volvo I still get comments about how good the boat still looks for it's age :D http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...-07-13/me2.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...707_114904.jpg |

Nothing better to do at the moment! Quote:
If I was to put an exact time to it I'd say that it was about 25min's dock to dock. Taking into account the 6knot limits at both ends ;) On that day and in that slight chop, I would say I was running high 40's (MPH) Still don't understand how my daughter can sleep through that! :shakehead: http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...woottonrun.jpg (1) Mercury yacht harbour river Hamble.(0:00) (2) River Hamble Cardinal (2:25) (3) Red Jet Ferries cross(2:45) (4) Running alongside the Red Jet(3:05) The Redjets run @ 38 knots which is about 44mph (5) Flying fish(6:05) (6) Peel Bank(10:05) (7) starters platform out side of Wootton Creek(10:58) (8) Wootton Creek Quote:
It's at the western end of the Isle of White, next to the Needles. Took them from my silly little paddling boat! :rolling_laugh: http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...eb/iowcopy.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...707_114621.jpg Quote:

Hi Andy, Dragged the Mariah out of the corner of the boatyard, so here is a taster of what we found,
Did'nt take any photos of the inside or engine as it started to snow !! If this the state of the outdrive what will the engine be like ?????? Thanks for info on your photos very interesting, my Grandson always fell asleep when I started the engine and remained asleep even at 25 knots. Ron |
Re: New Scottish Member
My first reaction was "Oh my dear God!" :eek_animated:
But then a couple of years sat in salt water will do that to paint on the outdrive..... It could just be cosmetic, but it's a real bargaining chip. Tread carefully with this one, it's obviously been neglected. There could be a bargain under there or a money trap! You didn't happen to notice if the bung was out did you? (hard to tell in that second picture) Was the boat heavy? |

Re: New Scottish Member
Hi Ron, seems all the brits are online tonight!
I've got a 218 down south and did a complete rebuild of the boat in 2008-2010, new engine and restoration of the hull etc. Mine is also running an SX drive, will see if I can post before and after pics. Don't worry about the surface finish until you have had a good look at it, the white colour is outdrive antifouling so get the loose stuff off. I tried evry finish of paint on mine, including the proper volvo stuff but the best I have found so far is Epoxy two pack. Check the oil in the outdrive is clean, if not change oil and the o rings on the fill and drain. Check there is no corrosion or deposits on the trim cylinder shiney portions. Do not operate the trim until these are clean otherwise you can damage the seals. Change the red oil (ATF) if it is cloudy. If it is still red, the system should be ok. Exercise the trim. If the drive oil is clean, it will probably be ok. Budget for a new set of anodes and don't like the look of your trim sensor! These tend to be quite unreliable on the volvos anyway http://i824.photobucket.com/albums/z.../Dirtyside.jpg http://i824.photobucket.com/albums/z.../Cleanside.jpg http://i824.photobucket.com/albums/z.../iPhone033.jpg Regarding the engine, change the water pump impellor immediately, I would then treat her to some new oil and take the plugs out and spray some WD40 into the cylinders and leave them for a day or so. Try cranking with a fresh battery with the plugs out, it should turn over very easily. Put some new plugs in and start her up, but be prepared to retime. These engines are bombproof, they are very well built and should last forever if looked after. However, corrosion can be their worst enemy as most of the block is cast iron. If you don't know the history, budget to change the risers and manifolds. If these are in poor condition, cooling water can and will enter the cylinders and hydro-detonate which can cause broken rods, cranks etc. Finally, get that plastic cover off asap. Boats have to breath and the pastic will sweat all the interior. A good canvas cover should be no more than GBP500 or less. |
Re: New Scottish Member
Where about's are you domraga?
|
Re: New Scottish Member
I'm down south in Sandhurst, Berkshire.
Boat is moored on the thames, where are you based? |
Re: New Scottish Member
Just outside of Southampton, on the edge of the New Forrest.
I do most of my boating around the Solent but am willing to travel. Although looking at the state of my garden at the moment I could quite happily do a few laps in the boat here! How's the flooding up your way? |
Re: New Scottish Member
It's pretty bad but I'm in Germany this week so missed out on the worst of it!
Will pm my details, I'm often in Southampton would be good to hook up! |
