Cool Finally joined the famous Mariah Owners Club

We got our first Mariah boat the weekend of July 4th - Yes we braved the crazy holiday lake weekend. Its not our first boat to own but our first Mariah and every day we love it even more than we could of expected. When we bought this 1999 Shabah boat, it was a little mistreated over its life and was left uncovered for what it seems was for several years. It has developed quite a smell. We are perplexed as what to do to eliminate the terrible odor that keeps creeping up on us, we definitely don't want to be the "stinky boat" people...lol We have done the good old fashion cleaning and also used a vinegar and water solution. When we clean the odor is gone but it just does not seem to last. The smell seems to be coming from water that has been trapped underneath the fuel tank. We even used our wet dry vac to suck up the standing water left over, let the vinegar water solution stand over night and then took the boat around the block to slosh it around before removing it as well. PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS would be so greatly appreciated. We are really looking forward to reading answers to this post as well as others that Im sure will come of use to us, and hopefully be able to pay it forward to others as well.

    Welcome to MOC guys!
Haven't used THIS stuff , but I know of others who have and liked the outcome.
Are you sure it isn't the carpet in the ski locker that is smelling?

Hey Larry great to hear from you! We took out all the carpet, the Awful dated cushions in the cuddy, bench and any other piece of the boat we could physically unload ourselves. Removed the deck and hosed and cleaned the entire beast. Squeegeed, scrubbed, sucked and dried. Its just that lingering odor that whiffes up our nostrils. I did see the PureAyre when I was searching online on how to get rid of rancid odors, among other suggestion Google gave, but decided before I tried any other method to let this club show me the way! Thanks for your help! Have a great weekend! Kelly

The pure air arrived to day, looking forward to giving it a try. The odor is much better today from the cleaning we gave it. The problem is water trapped under the fuel tank. The wet dry vac we have does a good job.

Let's hope you finally have the odour problem solved and it was nothing more than some stinky water... I have to admit however that i dont recall anyone else here ever having that problem which makes me wonder how this happened.

Mine stunk too when I bought it. The last owner left mine uncovered too. I used soap and water. And also used carpet cleaner. The smell is gone now. I hope u can get rid of your smell. Good luck and welcome.

We found the problem water gets trapped under the gas tank and under the floor in the cuddy. Our last boat 99 Rinker 232 purchased new, drained well so I assumed our Mariah would as well. Not the case. I'm not sure if it is clogged and will not admit it may be a poor design. Either way our solution was to put a wet dry vac on the drains. One in the storage hatch in front if the cuddy door and another in the cuddy. Raised and lowered the trailer tongue until is stopped coming out. The drains are connected to hoses that run under the gas tank but do not go all the way to the stern. there is a support in front of the engine that traps the water under the deck. Then I noticed more coming from inside the cuddy. So I removed the table mounting plate in the cuddy. Oh wow the water was scary like a monster movie. Again, no way for the water to drain. There was at least 4 gallons of water trapped in there. I have a fan going now everything looks like it is drying out nicely and our boat is starting to really love us. No boat wants to be the stinky boat. i think it like the new gimble bearing we are having replace also. I will repost after we use the Pure Air tonight.
