Potential Mariah owner

Hello everyone! My name is Jared and I live in the Lake Cumberland area of Kentucky. I have the opportunity to pick up a 1998 Mariah 211 cuddy (I think it is a Talari but not sure). This will the first boat i have owned although i have been around them all of my life. It seems to have been heavily used, but it appears to have held up well. The floor seems solid and there aren't any tears in the upholstery. It does have an overheating problem however while it is moving through the water. I think it is a fair price even with the overheating issue. The few people i have spoken too don't think the overheating issue will be a big problem. I'll hop over to the Mercruiser forum and get their suggestions.

I was happy to find a Mariah owners forum. Forums are a great place to share information.

Thanks

Welcome aboard Jared. First thoughts with overheating is a blockage somewhere in the cooling system or possibly a failing water pump impeller in the outdrive. Its the kind of thing though that you want to be sure of so before you spend your hard earned $$, i would have someone look at it.

What Mikey said for sure.
Impeller or even main waterpump can give those symptoms.
I agree with Mikey , need to have it checked out if you aren't comfortable diagnosing it yourself. :)

Thanks for the input. I'm confident I will be able to fix whatever is wrong with it. I have been a shade tree mechanic for a long time. I have lots of friends and family in the marine industry that can help guide me in the right direction as well as all of the resources here. For the price of the boat, it's hard to pass up. I may be eating my words later but hopefully not.
