Talking New to the club and to boating

I purchased a used 1993 20' Mariah Bow rider. Beautiful boat with a 5.7 liter Alpha 1 engine. Just had it for the summer of 2012. It needed a new starter, battery, radio, fuses, etc... The individual who worked on the boat said it looked as if the boat had sunk up to the starter. What should I look for as far as plugs, bilge pump operation, and so forth. The boat made runs up to 65 mph per my on board GPS/Fish finder. Easy to run. I would like to keep it running like that. Are there any technical manuals I can get my hands on for this model year?

Thanks everyone!

Welcome aboard. It sounds like the motor (oops sorry "engine") is running fine and if you are actually hitting 65mph then it is running 'extremely' well so i wouldn't fuss too much with the motor other than changing the oil & checking the plugs. You should also change the outdrive fluids and if you live where there is ANY possibility of a freeze condition then ensure the motor (oops again "engine") is winterized and stabilizer used in the fuel tank. In the event that the boat was partially sunk or waterlogged then i would suggest going over the electrical connections closely.

As for manuals, since you are a silver contributor you have full access to all of our available manuals & supplements. You will find most of the equipment manuals/supplements in the Original Mariah Talk section and you will find the link to most engine & outdrive service manuals at the bottom of the Maintenance & Repair section.

Mike, I had the entire boat gone over twice now. Electrical and mechanical. The boat is not water logged, Thank God!
I was quite surprised to be hitting speeds of 65 mph but what fun. I was chasing err I mean following a few jet skis and it seemed that the boat did very well in manuvering and speed control. These boats are very nice. I will be holding onto this one for a few years until my boys decide to take it off my hands. Then onto a new Mariah.
