I pulled the trigger today

I put down a deposit on a 1995 22' Talari with a 5.7L merc with thunder bolt ignition, But motor is shot. and no out drive. The hull is good, interior is pretty rough. any body no the engine rating and or the outdrive gearing?

Re: I pulled the trigger today

The '95 Talari 220 came with the option of the 5.7, 7.4 or the 454 Magnum. The maximum hp rating for the boat was 385. The 5.7 came with a choice of Alpha One (1.62 ratio) or Bravo 2 (1.65 ratio) outdrives. It weighed approx 3700 lbs and comes with a 60 gal gas tank.

You've got your work cut out for you. It will be difficult to find original trim parts for the interior, nearly impossible to find glass, the electrics will all have to be checked out, the upholstery is pricey to put right if you use the original Pre-fixx material and then an engine & outdrive to be purchased & installed. I dont envy you but keep us up to date if you decide to go ahead with her.

well at the glass is in good shape. I may have found a block all ready, I am going to fix this. I didn't know it had the option of a bravo 2 or the 454. I Guess i need to figure out which gimbel is in there. And would that be a GEN II out drive.
And thank you very much for the info
John

Yes Gen II. Rig it with a 454 and Bravo though! :flex:

I saw a pair of 454s with like 20 hrs on them complete except exhaust and, I think, carbs for $1500/ea on the OffShoreOnly.com classifieds a couple weeks ago.

Re: I pulled the trigger today

A 454 i think would be insane on a 22' boat. I just need to rebuild the 5.7 and find a genII and I will be in the water.
I have thinkin about getting the SEI outdrive, any body use them before?

Re: I pulled the trigger today

Yes, I replaced an Alpha One with one. They have a 3 year no questions asked replacement warranty. They are noisier than a Merc drive but, I really never heard anything bad about them. Jasper is another one that seems to have all good reviews and is at the same price point.

Re: I pulled the trigger today

I might have to get one then, since I cant find one for a gen 2, under $1600. well I take that back, i found one on the back of a bayliner. but i have to take the whole boat.

Re: I pulled the trigger today

You could always burn the Bayliner when done with it.

Jasper does motors for reasonable prices as well.
