Default New on board

Thanks for the welcome. If this site is what I think it is it would be like striking gold, I hope to speak with someone that could direct me in replacing parts safely. I have a 1995 Davanti 23.5 with a 5.8 FL DP Ford Penta with a dual prop system. I have an old back yard mechanic experience with my
cars in the past, so i'm pretty good at exchanging parts as needed, I 'm just not sure of my way around the marine engine's, would there be anything I should know other than the obvious. I feel torquing would be very important, it seems everything is super tight clamps, bolts, hose's etc...

My use is in salt water so thing's get extra time consuming after each day on the water. I use my craft cruising most of the time to destinations for fishing, campingout... I enjoy doing my owen repairs but I'm limited I no longer have my garage. My repairs this season to come, any suggestions...

replace Wire's
replace plugs
replace water pump
raw water cooling system
replace water separater
replace fuel filter@ carb 4 ble holly
replace thermostat
replace cap W/scerws
replace rotor
replace oil w/filter

    Welcome aboard, Lee!

Sorry I can't help you with your boat mechanics. The Admiral and I are fresh water boaters and our boat's engine is the 4.3L MerCruiser. About the only advice I can offer is "replace whatever's worn, broken, corroded or otherwise looks like it needs replacin'."

Usually the first rule of thumb is if it is electrical/ignition or fuel ALWAYS use marie. Too big a risk of fire or explosion. Using OEM parts is usually a little more expensive but a co-worker used a non-OEM starter and ended up a month later with an OEM starter and pulling his engine for a new flywheel!!! Most of your stuff looks like marine should be used.
