Newbie - New Shabah owner

Hello to all,

I am new to this group, and soon to be a new owner of a 2001 222 Shabah w/ a 5.7 Merc Bravo III outdrive. I have owned a couple of boats in the past but not a MARIAH. The boat I am getting seems to be in great shape except for it has been sitting outside unused for 2 years and has collected mildrew on the interior. Anyone have any thoughts on cleaning her up and checking for problems on a boat that has been sitting for awhile? Any reasons not to buy her?

Welcome aboard. Interior mildew can be cleaned with Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Hopefully the prior owner had maintenance records / receipts for you to view and you were able to water test the boat?

Hi counselor and welcome to the club!

As with any boat, running or not, until you have it checked out by a knowledgeable mechanic, it's anybody's guess whether it's a good deal or not.

Since you've owned boats in the past, I'm sure you know that this Mariah will need it's power system checked and serviced since it's been sitting for so long, either way, it's all part of boat ownership, right?

Since you mentioned mildew, check out all the electrics, moisture is the enemy of all boat electrics.

For the mildew on the interior , I recommend "Star Bright" Mildew Stain Remover. I've had great success with it, but like any stain remover, test it in an inconspicuous spot first to insure it doesn't harm the color or the material.
