new menber
Hi all,
I own a 1996 shabah 180,which is a great boat. I bought it 4 years ago. it was a one owner. My last boat was an IMP which was ok. I have developed a power steering problem. I can't seem to find the leak.It is not in the pump or the hoses. Where else is there to look? regards Lonnie |

Ahoy lonnie60 and welcome to the club!
If you're finding power steering oil in the bilge, the leak is probably coming from the steering ram assembly at the top of the transom where it attaches to the gimbal steering arm or your heat exchange may be leaking at the hose connections (follow the low pressure hose from the pump [it's attached with a hose clamp to the pump] and it will lead you to the exchanger). If there isn't any trace of oil but the pump oil level drops or the oil is milky, then it sounds like the cooling coil inside of the heat exchanger has been compromised allowing the oil to mix with the cooling water and flow out with the exhaust necessitating the replacement of the exchanger. Good luck and let us know what you find, WetWilly P.S. Please take a little time and add your pin to the club map. |
