New member - need some info

Hi everyone,

I've owned my Mariah Talari 179 SE for about a 2 years and think its a great boat. I need some info on it as I'm looking to buy a new tow vehicle. I've been using my Explorer which was rated at 3500lbs and never had any real problems. However, I do tow thru some mountains in NJ/NY/PA and at times it seems that this puts a strain on my engine.

Does anyone know the weight of my boat/trailer? The person I bought it from told me it was around 3000lbs combined, so I didn't think that there was an issue with the class II hitch. Before I buy a new SUV (I'm looking at another Explorer or Chevy Traverse), I'd like to make sure that I'm in the limits.

Thanks,
Mike

The boat weighs 2200#, and the trailer probably another grand. Add in the fuel and gear and you are likely above 3500.

If you are buying a new vehicle, I'd go for a class III receiver, as you are pushing the limit of what a class II is rated for.

Oh, and welcome aboard!

Thanks for the info and advice. I'll be going with a class III receiver.
