Default New guy in NM

Hi all,

I'm a new Mariah owner here in NM. I picked up my 1999 182 Shabah in Phoenix over the weekend while visiting family and dragged it home.

It needs a little cosmetic TLC. The previous owner only had it for a year but the original owner apparently didn't care for the purple/yellow color scheme and removed the factory vinyl graphics to replace them with his own 'custom' homemade graphics. A heat gun and some MEK cleaned that right up. I need to get a hold of some gelcoat polish tomorrow. There aren't any marine shops in Las Cruces, so that means a trip to El Paso or Elephant Butte.

I do have a question. Did the 1999 182 Shabah have carpet? This one looks like someone added the carpet and used too much adhesive.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to the club!

Take a look in our "Gallery" (link is in the blue bar near the top of the page) and look in the 1999 section, we have a few members displaying their 182s and it looks like they came either way, with and without,,,,,

After you clean her up a bit, why don't you post some of your own pictures in our Gallery, that purple/yellow color scheme sounds pretty wild and we have a member that might be able to hook you up with the the factory hull graphics if you're interested! For a tutorial on uploading to our gallery, Click here.

While you're at it, go ahead and stick your pin on our Members Map. Here's a tutorial on how to add your pin: Click here

Lastly, the MOC has a growing library of manuals, brochures, wiring diagrams, and all sorts of information relevant to your Mariah, the stern drives and equipment. All of these are available to our contributing members. Click here to see what each level has to offer.

If you need any help getting around the Forum, just give a shout,

    Thanks Willy!

I think it may have come with carpet but someone decided to replace it but they used WAAAAYYYYYY too much adhesive. It's showing through the carpet and the carpet isn't that worn. Hopefully it's something a solvent will break down and not Gorilla Glue.

    Hi Chris,

Just a little note; be careful with the solvents and make sure whatever you're going to use is safe for fiberglass. Use it sparingly around where the floor panels join. Even some fiberglass "safe" solvents and their vapors can attack the resin or foam filling if it pools up and sits long enough. One thing that will help is to remove the drain plug and hose off the floor especially around the joints after you've remove the carpet, this should help flush away any excess solvent that has found it's way under the floor panels, let dry and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the tip Willy. I'm going to try a little MEK to see if it will remove the spot of adhesive visible in the ski locker frame before I do anything else.
