Hello all, I have a Mariah 202 Shabah that bought new in 95. Since then I have only seen one other in the areas where I go boating. Recently I tried to contact the factory for some upholstery info and was informed that the company that made my boat was no longer in buisiness. They directed me to this site. I am excited to learn that there are more Mariah fans out there. I am from the Ann Arbor Michigan area and usually stick with the small local lakes or Houghton Lake which is about mid state. However I am planning a trip soon on Lake Erie to try for some Walleye. It will be my first venture on the Great Lakes with my little 20 footer. I'll let you know if I survive.

Hey, good to see you on the site. I think you will find that this is a great site for all of your questions, thoughts, and what ever else you would like to share. I have been on the site for a little while now and I try to check in at least once a day. I have found that just reading the other threads answers some questions that I did not even know that I had. There are a lot of interesting people with a vast amount of knowledge. I am from Louisville, Ky. we have a few lakes down here but nothing like what you have up there. Make sure your bilge is working before you go. I read a thread on here about a guy that was in a bigger boat than a 20 footer and a smaller lake than you are going to, got caught in a small storm and had water coming over the bow. Also, I have a 20 foot shabah 96. Love it. The boat really performs well for me and my family. We are planning to take it out this weekend. The lakes are going to be very busy.

Welcome to the board Lugnut! Don't be intimidated by Lake Erie... I take mine up there quite a bit. Just make sure you have a VHF radio and keep it tuned to channel 16. They will announce any situations you should be concerned about. Check the weather channel on the radio every couple hours if you'll be out there for a while. And if you hear a "Small craft advisory" get your boat to shore.

Don't forget to tighten your drain plug, and remember, it doesn't hurt to take your time on the water. Don't be in a hurry, it's hard to find a comfortable speed when the swells are above 3'. Just take it easy, and you'll be fine!

^Great advice. I took my 95 202 out for it's test drive on Lake Ontario in 3' swells. Never got to check out the top end of the throttle, but I was thoroughly impresssed by how the boat muscled through the rough stuff.

I regularly boat on Georgian Bay, which can get really wicked really quick. I just plan my trips, pay attention to the prevailing winds, study the marine forcasts and follow the windward shores when it starts blowing hard.
