Hello Group!
I own a 1999 Mariah Shabaha 202. I am going to be replacing the steering cable, any suggestions, do's or dont's, any video to share? Best place to buy parts?

pretty easy job. just use the old cable to pull in the new one.i think you have the newer style actuator which have quick disconnects. the slots on the actuator have to be straight up when finished. download a manual and its easy. I think you need mercruiser # 16.

    Lancer'
    Thanks for the reply.
Where can I download an owners manual?
I'm having to remove the cable before I order one, in order to determine which length I need, according to sales guy.
Is the actuator at the engine side of the cable?

I just looked on the internet with my year and size of my mercruiser service manual and downloaded it for free.you can also look through YouTube for some additional information. you should be able to find the size on the plastic jacket up by the steering wheel side if I remember

If you are looking for an "Owners Manual" there is a Sticky at the top of the Introductions Forum advising on this. Personally i think they are a waste of time as they are nothing more than a "Better Boating" guide.

There are a few You Tube videos on replacing the steering cable and as Lancer suggested its not a difficult job but it would be wise to locate & download a Mercruiser service manual as they can usually be found for free on various sites. This site has a number of service manuals but you will need to be a 'paid contributor' to access them. I would suggest that if you do decide to become a 'paid contributor' then you should download whatever service manuals / brochures etc that you might need in the future asap as this website seems to be dying a slow death....

I cannot get the cable loose where it meets the prop. And I cannot insert a picture for a visual. But the cable is not coming out. Any suggestions?

Yes, it's loose but I can't pull the cable out, the pin is removed, everything is loose, it seems bound up. I can send you a picture if you want me to text you. It seems like it should pull out, but it won't.

ok turn the steering wheel all the way to the right to contract the cable as much as possible. then you may have to lift the outer black jacket where it turns a 90 degree at the back left of the boat as looking at it and the work the cable out. you may have to muscle it a little bit but there is enough room to get it out. you can also try to tweak it loose at the steering wheel and pull the cable forward to give yourself more room. I think I just muscled mine out, but can't entirely remember
