Boat tach
Hello. I have not had a boat for a long time. We just bought a 1990 2150XLR in great condition. We love the boat. I am having issues with the tach. It's at 2000 rpm with engine off and 4000 at idle. Also the tilt/trim gauge does not work. Any ideas? Anybody know a source for replacement gauges? As a contributing member would I have access to a wiring diagram for my boat? It has a 454 bravo 1 mercruiser. Thank you in advance.

Re: Boat tach
Tach; There is a small dial on the backside of your tach. Give it a spin around a number of times and then re-set it to '8 Cyl' and see if that helps.
Tilt/Trim gauge not working: Welcome to the world of 75% of boaters with these. Replacing the units requires removal of the outdrive. You can though read a couple of the 'How to's' located here and trouble-shoot your system. ps... It's not likely your gauge. Wiring diagrams: You need to be a "contributing" member here to gain access to manuals, diagrams etc> Read the FAQ's located here and all will be explained. Just note though that neither of the site admins have been here since mid May so who knows when you will get a response to a contributing membership request. |
Re: Boat tach
Thanks for the info. I will give it a try.

Re: Boat tach
If spinning the dial does not work you can split the old tach by prying the trim ring. Then take the tach needle off then the gage face off and install on a new tach and it will look and work like new. Did this to my 99 Shabah.
