New boat owner here! Silly question about my 1995 Davanti z235, will the bilge pump still work when I turn my main battery to the off position cutting power to the boat?

My bilge pump is wired directly to the battery, powered through the float switch. This makes sense to me, if you leave your boat at the marina with the battery switch off you wouldn't want a small leak or a wave/rainstorm to sink it.

I can't say if that is the standard or typical setup or not, although I had assumed so. Can't you test it out on your boat pretty easily?

Hey Sydney,
Easy enough to check, with the battery switch off reach down to the pump and lift the float switch. If the pump activates....good deal in my book. If not you may want to wire it direct to the battery. I'd rather come back to my boat and find the batteries partially drained rather than the boat sitting on the bottom because it couldn't drain. (Happened to a boat behind mine at a dock. He tied up after launching on a Saturday afternoon and came back Sunday morning to find his boat on the bottom in 4.5 ' of water. The bellows leaked and there was some heavy rain overnight. The pump did not activate because it was wired after the battery switch.)

I have the same boat and am the original owner. My bilge pump came from the factory wired directly to the batteries and will work with the battery switch in the off position.
