Default 1999 Shabah 218 v8

I bought the boat used and noticed when taking it out the boat had a hard time getting to plane. I would give it throttle and the nose of the boat would go up. The previous owner also put a hydro foil on it to help. The the out drive stay down or should it be up? All my boats have been bayliners so I'm not sure if there is a different way. It seems to lack power when it happens too. Let me know what you think.

Has it always been like this or is this something new? I was told nothing says I don't have enough power like a hydrofoil. Lol 1st thing I did was take mine off and put on smart tabs. Best money I spent. I plane out at about 14 with almost no bow rise. I start mine with the trim all the way down and then work it to even at about 20 to 25 when not doing water sports. Not sure about the lack of power? Had a friend with a loose prop that kinda did the same thing as yours a few weeks back.

I also bought a 99 218 with a 350 I looked up the specs on the motor and it's 2007 330 hp...... same problem getting on plane.... was given a hydrofoil when I bought the boat I didn't put it on. I'm thinking it maybe the prop but I have it in the water and Haven't looked to close at size and pitch it is a 3
Blade. Wot on this Motor is 5200rpm I probably get to 4500 rpm coming out of the hole. It's kind of embarrassing having people move forward so I can get the boat on plane. Any ideas? I cruise up and down the river at 3300rpm @ 35 mph with 5 people. I have my 3 year old daughter with me most of time never really opened it up all the way.

    Thanks

My guess is that you have a pretty high prop pitch. Many time they are stamped with a product number you can look up. To hit 35 I am in the 4000's with my 300 hp 5.7L, but I am set up for water sports. I run a 14 x 17P 4 blade SS at 5000' elevation. Typical 3 to 7 people with a max speed of about 45 mph fully loaded. My boat can pull my fat butt out of the water on skies with 6 adults cheering me on. I still have the original engine with 680 hours on it. At 3300 rpm I am only at about 24mph loaded. Props can be tough to get right so check the stickies on the site. You need to look at your typical load, what you are doing, and elevation when getting the correct pitch. I sacrifice top end for tow power, but in Colorado the speed limit is 40 mph. I know some people change props bases on the activities they are doing that day. Fyi that same prop gets me to 52 mph when I drop to 3000' elevation.
