Mariah Shabah 2000

Hi to all,

I just got me a Mariah Shabah 2000 18 footer. the boat is like brand new, only 65 hours on it.
my question is? the boat was in storage for about 5 years.

I can't wait to get it ready and take it to the lake.

what should I do fist? should I try to start the Engine and see how it sounds. or should I take it to a mechanic to have it checked out? I call this place an they asking $ 195.00 to have it checked out?

or $600 to $700 to have it service?

I would have it serviced. After 5 years, the oil and other lubricants are faded and need replacement. The gas in the tank and carb(?) or injectors (?) is bad for sure, so that has to be flushed out before running it.

And the impeller in the water pump is probably shot.

definitely get it serviced ...... check lower unit fluid also. make sure belts on front of engine are not cracked/dry rotted.
i bought a z252 this winter and had it out for one hour and the engine blew up.
a crank bearing went.... the previous owner had put ss water cooled manifolds on it that were not mercury and the engine was taking in a little water every time the engine shut down and also one piston was put in backwards from the new rebuild :shakehead:..... when you drain your oil check for metal filings/water etc and change it before you start it..... i went and bought a new 502 HO in place of the 454 ..... it sucks to buy second hand stuff sometimes.
lesson learned.
