Welcome to the MOC! You can post the question in the "Original Mariah Talk", that's likely the best place to get an answer!

I just bought a 1990 1850 XL and the gas gauge doesn't work. It doesn't move at all, even when driving.

You need to figure out if it is the gauge, the sender or the wiring in between the two. Start by shorting the sender terminal on the rear of the gage to ground. If the gage moves to full or above full then the gage is OK. Next locate the sender and short the center terminal (usually a bolt w/nut) on the sender to ground (usually a terminal on the sender flange). Again if the gage moves to full or above then the gage and wiring are OK and the problem is the sender. If the gage still doesn't move try jumping the sender flange to the engine block or other known good ground still while shorting the center terminal of the sender. If the gage now shows full or above the issue is the ground to the sender needs to be replaced. Good luck.
