Hello from Arkansas!!

http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/...psaxrnibi4.jpg

Just purchased a 93 2000Z. I have very little history on the boat, will the HIN provide me with much? And how do I learn how to decipher it? Pretty sure it's not the original motor, has a Chevy 350 in it, hooked to a Volvo Penta Outdrive with duoprops. I'll probably be here a lot, seeing how I'm about to go through the boat from bow to stern. All new upholstery is in order, and I have water in my oil, so the heads are coming off quick. Gotta get this baby up and running within a couple months so I don't miss out on the summer fun. :)

I have a 92 2000Z that's green with Merc 5.7 Alpha One engine and merc. outdrive. I still have some work to do on mine but not that much left to do. :-) I'm from Alaska by the way, nice to see another 2000Z

Welcome to the MOC outacontrol, and congrats on your "new" 2000Z! Looks like she just needs a good cleaning and some TLC! A lot of us use the Meguiars Fiberglass Restoration Kit and have really positive results.

You can PM me your hull id number and I can give you the info from the factory build sheets. This will at least give you an idea of what engine was originally installed.

Thanks ShabahZ280!! The info from my HIN was very helpful. The interior is completely stripped out, ready for reupholstering, and the top end of engine is disassembled, ready for rebuild. Looking forward to putting this all back together and putting it in the water :)

Re: Hello from Arkansas!!

When you took off you heads did it look like there was a blown gasket? Hope that its not something too serious like cracked block or something. I bought my 95 with a blown motor. After disassembly it was found to have spun a bearing and ate things up pretty good. Had to get an align bore along with the rest of the rebuild.

Re: Hello from Arkansas!!

Thanks for the concern cswinings. Actually, the worst case scenario occurred. I had a cracked block, cracked head, and a blown head gasket, not that the later mattered. Shopping now for an alternative, looking at some used 350's, also considering a freshly rebuild engine. I do not want to go through this again. But while the search is on, it's giving me time to get the boat cleaned up and the upholstery redone. Still looking forward to getting it in the water within a couple months.

Do you know why the engine block and heads cracked. Sorry to hear the bad news.

Re: Hello from Arkansas!!

Normally it is from lack of or improper winterization.

Re: Hello from Arkansas!!

I really don't know the cause, bought the boat used. They said, "Overheated while on the lake, checked oil and discovered water in it." I've been told a lot that doesn't add up, so I've lost a lot of faith in the stories. So it's time to start from scratch and make sure every things done right on this rebuild.

Re: Hello from Arkansas!!

Sorry to hear that, but at least now you can rebuild it and make it the motor you want.
