Hey all I have a problem with my fuel tank. I have 2000 222 and when I get home from work in the evening I smell gas really bad by my boat. I noticed that there is gas running out of the fill cap. I have taken the vent tube off and made sure it was not plugged up. Any one have this problem and found a fix I hope its ruining my new paint.

Look for a leak in the line.
Maybe the vent itself is plugged not just the line.
Shot in the dark , but try disconnecting the battery.
Maybe the fuel pump is staying energized , or maybe a bad regulator leaking , if you have fuel injection.
I'd do a fuel pressure test on it.

Its a carb engine. I always kill the master switch. I have had the vent line off the tank and blow though it. No slugs! Thanks for you input Larry I'll take all I can get.

Might be worth changing the angle of your boat while sitting on the trailer by lowering or raising the bow. It may be that your boat is like some of the others in that it gets an air lock in the tank when the boat is sitting a bit high at the bow. When the temps get a bit hot outside the fuel vapour expands and forces its way out the vent hole likely bringing a bit of fuel with it. You could also consider loosening your fuel cap and see if that helps.

Mine does the same thing if the tank is close to full. Never found a solution other than I lower the bow as low as I can and leave the cover off the vent. If I let it sit with the cover on it smells like its ready to explode when I take it off. I also never let it sit full of fuel anymore. It'll puke out the vent so bad it'll be running down my driveway.

Yes That Is What Mine Is Doing. Gas Is Lik Poring Out That Gas Fill. Its got Like A Full tank And I Have Tryed Rising And Lowering The Bow. This Helps.For Like Two Min. And Look Out Here Comes The Fuel Again. I Have Had OtheR Boats And Never Seen This. Mikey Im Sure It Is An Air Lock But Why And How to Stop it. Mybe Relocating The Vent!

My Z280 does the same thing. Mariah made a couple of mistakes on my fuel system. First the fill and vent connections to the tank are at the rear of the tank, this is the opposite from other boats that I have owned. If the tank is full and the boat is in a nose high attitude both the fill and vent are covered with fuel. This traps air in the front of the tank. As the trapped air and fuel in the the tank expand with the heat of the afternoon it builds up pressure that has to go somewhere...out the fill or vent! Per CG regulations, the vent line is supposed to have a loop in it to prevent water from entering into the tank. This loop is supposed to start at the vent thru hull fitting and go up to the underside of the gunwale. The second error Mariah made on the Z280 is that the loop for the vent line goes down rather than up from the thru hull fitting. This was probably due to the location of the vent thru hull fitting, there is no way for the vent line to go up. This downward facing loop essentially makes a plumbing trap. Once fuel (or water) enters the vent line it prevents any venting of the fuel tank. I removed the vent loop and no longer completely fill the tank when the boat is stored on land. If the tank ever needs to come out for repair I plan to add a second vent at the front of the tank.

I Had My Vent Tube Off There Not a No Loop In It. Mybe One Would Help My Issue. Im Not Going To Leave The Tank Full Anymore. I Seen That The VeNt Is Right There Next To Tge Fill tube.Thanks Steve For Your Input.Its Was Helpful.

Acquired 98 Jubilee. Have ran several times with no problem. I filled gas tank up for the first time (43 gallons) and now I smell gas fumes. Where would the vent tube be on this model? No obvious gas anywhere. Is the answer to just not fill it all the way up as I've seen in other posts....or do I need to remove some of the gas from tank before operating it.

Where are you smelling gas?? The vent on my boat is right next to the fill. It is OK to smell gas near the vent but if you are smelling it in the center of the boat you need to access your tank and check that it is not leaking from the fuel sender flange gasket which is obviously a dangerous situation.
