5.7 Exhaust Manifolds
I went to winterize my 5.7 today and was unable to remove the drain plugs from the bottom of the exhaust manifolds. This is the first time I am doing my own winterizing and am not sure if my marina (they went out of business this past spring) every pulled the plugs. Does pulling the hose off the bottom of the bottom of manifold drain it and the riser or do I need to get those plugs out to drain properly? I would prefer to drain versus sucking up antifreeze via the muffs.

Re: 5.7 Exhaust Manifolds
I wouldn't be comfortable not getting the plugs out.
Sucks for sure , but if it was me .......... I'd pull the manifolds and get the plugs removed. Drill em out if you got too. I have seen guys fill the engine with RV antifreeze via open thermostat housing ,reinstall housing , and start engine momentarily............. but I wouldn't risk it. To many things can go wrong. Pull the manifolds , drill em , and use a easy out to remove. Install new plugs. You'll sleep a lot better! |
Re: 5.7 Exhaust Manifolds
If you decide to take them out, try to heat them up with a torch first. I've had good luck heating and then pouring water on the plug. Seems to break the set loose. I hate having to use a drill. :banghead:

Re: 5.7 Exhaust Manifolds
Has any one of you ever used "CRC Freeze Off Super Penetrant " just found this on youtube and looks like it might work to loosen the drains.

Re: 5.7 Exhaust Manifolds
I have. Its worth a shot. Same principle as the heat and cool with torch and water. It works sometimes and some not. I'd try it before I pulled them off.
