Alpha 1 Gen 2 Question

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

When I had my 5.7 running on muffs the other day I noticed that some exhaust and water was being discharged out of the front of the upper section of the outdrive, from the shift linkage area, (see photo attached). Is this normal? This may always be happening but I had never peeked in behind while the engine was running.

I could be wrong but , I think it's probably just the exhaust boot leaking. No big deal , just time to replace. And do the u joint boot and shift cable boot too , cause if if it leaks , bad things happen fast.
Check gimble bearing and drive alignment while your at it.

Mine does the exact same thing. I was told this is normal and once the drive is lowered and the engine starts turning some rpm the exhaust and water moves fast enough to bypass the smaller holes and just comes out the prop. I haven't gotten down there to investigate closely yet though.

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 2 Question

Thanks for the responses guys.

I checked the Mercruiser Technician's Handbook and to me it looks like this would be normal, but I wanted my interpretation of the drawings to be confirmed or corrected if I wasn't reading them right. Really don't want to pull the drive if I don't need to (all checked out ok this summer when I did a long block re-power due to blown head gasket).

Sounds like your good to go then!!
I haven't really looked at mine when on muffs to be honest with you.
I know my old cobra drive had slits in the bottom of the exhaust boot as husker stated.
