Dash problems

ok, heres the deal. I purchased a new hummingbird depth finder. The existing lowarance always reads .5 ft. The installation instructions seem fairly straight forward but the problem lies in the removal of the old one. The boat is a 2001 Mariah 212 and the dash is all molded fiberglass, you cannot even see the back of the existing finder from underneath. From in the bow you can flip up the starboard back rest and see a little of it, but my bifocals don't really do me justice. Regurdless it seems that there are screws from the front but there is no way I want to pry around on plastic trim on the dash of a boat that the company is no longer around. Does any body have any suggestions?

What Lowrance model do you have?

I am not sure if the model but it is just the std 2" dash mount.

Should be a bracket on the back with a small nut that needs to be removed. Might have to have eyes in your fingers to get at it. I removed my drivers foot kickboard and could get to mine fairly easily.

That might give me a better vantage point, will look at that this eve. Thanks

Sounds like you have the 3500 series Lowrance sounder.
There are two phillips screws on the sides in the back that you need to loosen to remove the unit. They are across from each other on the unit. According to the install instructions you might need to pop off the bezel first.
Hope that helps you out! :)

That is the outside ring with the glass in it.
I'd try loosening the screws and removing the unit with the bezel on first , sometimes the bezel(ring) will break because of sun/weather exposure.(If your trying to save the unit) :)
