Bench Seat Hinge Repair 180 Shabbah

Hi Chaps

After a bit of a bouncy ride out on the solent, it transpires that the screws securing the rear bench to the floor are just rather thin (but scarily long) self tappers that have ripped loose. Hinges are fine - just need to be resecured to the cockpit floor.

Obviously there are a few options on how to proceed - use some thicker self tapping screws being the obvious... but is there a recommended 'proper' solution?

Is there a way of getting under there easily enough to put in some decent brass bolts or something? Is there anything fragile under that area - does the fuel tank go that far back!?

Would one of those tapped screw in inserts (something like dynafix insertsdirect.com - Product Information - Screw-In Dynafix Inserts) work well in this situation?

Any advice on this would be great... for now the boat is on the river, but I hope to go bouncing on the big water next year again! See what else falls off :(

Cheers all.

It must have been a bouncy ride. :eek_animated:

The petrol tank goes back as far as the sender unit which you should find just under the carpet in front of the motor but its a fairly narrow tank. I would consider using the Dynafixx inserts possibly making sure they stay anchored with some 3M 5200 when installing them. There is no way that i know of (other than ripping the floor decking out) to install bolts/nuts. If you have a look in the brochure (they're online here) you can see how the flooring etc is constructed.
