Default Condition vinyl covers?

I had the covers off over night and it cooled quite a bit when i went to unfold them i could hear it cracking. They are the origional covers and spent their entire life in FL but now in VA. There were no cracks in them until today and now there are quite a few small cracks in the color top layer. I have cleaned and protected them Meguiars 57 Vinyl and Rubber protectant and cleaner. Is it just that they are getting old or is it the cold that caused this to start? You can condition leather in cars to keep it soft can you do something like this with the vinyl also?

It could be both. You did the right thing by applying a protectant. This should help prolong the life a little bit, but eventually it will degrade to the point beyond reasonable use. My cockpit cover was destroyed within the first year, so I had a custom one made out of sunbrella, and haven't had any issues since!
