Today I swapped out the broken OEM marine stereo and replaced it with a new Kenwood with an iPod dock. In my initial attempt I discovered that I was only getting five volts so I pulled the switch panel on the dash, cleaned up the leads on the stereo switch and immediately got back to twelve volts. All of the other switches show similar levels of corrosion on them but I left them alone for now.

A question for a project that I won't even consider doing until it cools off this fall - is there anything I can coat/spray on the leads to slow the corrosion process down?

I dab on a little dielectric grease after the contacts are clean and tight. Keeps water away.
