Yes, extra warm up time would probably be needed with Straight 40w.. I always have my boat up to 125 before I hammer down... And even then it doesn't go past 150 MAX.. Usually 145.

I didn't realize when I responded that your engine was new. I would have stuck with dino oil too if I had read more carefully.

do you have high volume oil pump? do you have oil pan to match pump? are you running hot? can u install oil cooler? no engine new or rebuilt should burn that much oil, no excuses! check your engine compartment maybe way to hot and your engine temperature its running hot and ur oil is breaking down, or engine builder just had a bad day.
