Squeal in Distributor

I have a loud squeal from the distributor.(thunderbolt V) Cleaned the cap interior and pulled the distributor to lubircate it. It stopped squealing for about 2 minutes then started again. Any one know a possible fix? Thanks, Walter '96 Z215 Talari 5.7 L Bravo III

Hi wplaine,

Unless it's coming from the rotor inside of the cap, you may have an upper shaft bushing going out on the distributor. I would apply some "dielectric" (available at any auto parts store)grease on the center contact of the rotor and inside of the cap and if that doesn't work, I would try squirting a little WD-40 down into the upper bushing on the shaft underneath the rotor to see if that quiets it down.

Will try all of that. 'Towing to the outer banks of NC tomorrow on vacation and working on it while improving it. I have had it three weeks and fixed probably ten things.... Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for the info. Tried the dielectric gerase. Squeel only starts once warmed up so the hunt continues....
