Electrical Fix
launched the boat, engine started fine
went to trim down motor and just got a fast click, click, click, click this had happened a few weeks back when it rained a ton and the boat got wet but the next day was fine well this time i was out with a buddy that is an electrician so he starts poking around (should note this is on a 1995 Barchetta 182) well on your battery is the two main poles positive and negative, like a car then there are smaller poles with wing nuts on them well the negative wing nut has 2 wires one leads to what i believe is the fuel pump and the other to the tilt trim electric hydraulic pump the two "o" connectors on this pole are copper and didnt appear to be corroded to me, but my electrician friend noticed they were green (what happens when copper corrodes) we pulled them off, scraped them with a knife we had onboard reattached them and everything worked fine so it was a very easy fix, if you knew where to look, so i thought i would post here in case anyone else has a similar problem went on to have a great day of boating which could have been ruined moral of the story...allways take an electrician fishing |
yep....you can always use the electrician as bait if nothing goes wrong with the boat. :D

changed the title, seemed more appropriate.
This is a great point to be made, for some reason our boats electrical connections are very susceptible to corrosion. Clean your contacts first if you're having any strange electrical behavior! :) |
