Speedometer not working
Anyone know how to fix the speedometer? I cleaned out the hole in my lower Stern drive and that didnt work. It looks like Mariah may have used a wheel mounted on the bottom of the boat to measure the speed. I do have one of those but there is no info on it. Any ideas?
Thanks. |
Re: Speedometer not working
The wheel is your milage tracker on the right side of the steering wheel (on my boat). The speedometer used water pressure from the small hole on the front of your drive unit through a plastic tube all the way to your speedometer. If you cleaned out the hole then you either have a leak in the system, a clog in the system, or a bad speedometer. You can remove the water tube from the back and you a low setting on your compressor to blow it out if clogged. Make sure to zip tie back on. If the speedometer is bad they have a lifetime warranty, but it cost like $50 for registration. Hope that helps. Mine keeps getting clog from the lake I am on so I just use a gps speedometer app on my phone.

DONT blow out the speedo with a compressor from the outdrive end or you will end up replacing your speedometer. Disconnect the tube at the back of the speedo and blow it out from that end. They generally dont fail so its likely a loose connection or a blockage.
