Breaking out the boat

after a long winter stored away after being professionally winterized

what does one have to do, mechanically speaking

in the fall it was tuned up, oil changed, lower unit checked
i pulled the battery and stored it inside
boat stored in the garage

can i just hook up the earmuffs
charge the battery and start it?

Bring it up to temperature. After you run it for a while I would change your fuel filter and after my experience with faulty manifolds. I would suggest pulling the oil drain plug and catching a sample of oil to check for water. Check your fire extinguishers, load up the life preservers, emergency gear/first aid kit, water toys, and ice chest. Then.......hit the lake

how hard is it to get her started after winterization
will it kill the battery turning over

last boat i had a guy i know winterize it and he would choke out the carb when done by pouring oil into it while running...is that common?
seems that would be awful hard to get started again

Choking the engine after putting in the fogging oil is the preferred way of winterizing the cylinders. By the time you run to the ignition switch, the oil in the cylinders has burned off...

Mine was winterized by my guy at the marina. I picked it up last weekend, drove to the launch ramp, put the plug in, dropped it in the water, gave the accelerator two pumps, cranked it for about 3 seconds before it fired right up.

I let it idle for a few minutes to get it up to temp, and away we went.

I had exactly the same experience with mine last year. Haven't fired it up yet this year but expect the same again.
