Depends on which motor you have. I have a 7.4 Volvo, recommended oil is 20-50 Volvo Penta, expensive, I use Royal Purple 20-50 full synthetic.

Mercruiser recommends Quicksilver 25W-40 Marine engine oil. I use it when I can get it. More often than not I use a straight 40W oil that is more readily available in auto stores. Note that the SAE 40 is only good at temperatures above 50F (10C).

It's your choice. I would not use it. The 15W is pretty thin. The 7.4L has fairly low oil pressure at idle and the thinner oil will not help.

I use the Valvoline VR 20W-50. I want as much zinc as I can get. (I know Hudson, it's a roller but I'm hard headed thata way). Full synth is best but the more important thing is the filter.
Arguments? I use either the K$N or Mobil1 Extended. The filtering media is unbeatable. Just don't put anything orange on it. Again....arguments? |
