Glad to hear it went well Paul.
Just don't overdo it now!
Gimble job ain't bad at all when you get to it. Especially since you got the puller/installer , which makes it way easier for the bearing work itself.:wink_thumbup:
Just make sure ya line up the grease zerk feed hole.

Thanks guys!
On the gimbal alignment, my tool kit has the alignment rod. If it's out of alignment, how do you adjust it? Is it a headache to do?

It's usually just a matter of front to back adjustment , which can be done at the motor mounts.
Unless the motor has shifted from side to side , which is rare as long as the motor mount pads are in good condition.
You want that alignment tool to slide in and out of the gimble bearing like it's butter. Takes a bit of playing with but well worth the results.

The only reason I brought it up is its a while you're in there kinda thing. Like Larry said, the adjustment is at the motor mounts. These boats are getting older, the stringers settle causing the mis- alignment and therefore I the coupler an gimbal extra stress.
Look at the yoke too. Packed with metallic looking grease? Indicator your coupler is wearing. They are made out of aluminum for some reason...

Thanks for letting me know about that. I'll check the alignment with the rod that comes with my install kit. The driveshaft slides out pretty easy and didn't have to tug extremely hard on the lower unit to get the shaft out, so maybe that's a good sign. I'll check my manual and go over that procedure, too. Just got the new gimbal bearing, oil seal, o rings and a new u joint bellows in the mail today. Tools should be here in a day or two, but I need to heal up some more before I start banging stuff around!
