New Toy
Now that Christmas is out of the way I bought myself a new toy :)
Hope to use it out on the boat this year.....should be fun :wink_thumbup: http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...110_182128.jpg |
Re: New Toy

Nah! What you can do with it is cool
Interesting closing shot......lol |
Re: New Toy
Had my first flight today.
Ended in a crash!:rolling_laugh: It'll be a while before I fly it over water but lets just say I won't be relying on the Auto land function! I did take some on board footage. i'l have to take a look at that later... |
Re: New Toy
Some on board footage

Re: New Toy
Pretty cool Andy!
What is the flight time for that thing? |
Re: New Toy
I'm thinking you have too much spare money in your pockets for these kinds of things. You should be spending your money on havin' Larry & I over for a visit & buying us a few pints.... :rolling_laugh:

Re: New Toy
Yeah , Yeah , Yeah! :rolling_laugh::rolling_laugh:

Re: New Toy
Flight time on the standard battery was about 8 minutes.
I've also bought a couple of upgraded batteries and they last about 12 minutes each. This was pushing it a bit, and I was letting them hover out until the thing did it's auto land. So I would say for safety sake fly them for 6 and 10 minutes then bring them back and land them yourself :wink_thumbup: I'm going to need some practice before I get adventurous with it, it's very easy to fly but I need to build my confidence in it first :rolling_laugh: the GPS return to home feature needs to prove it's self to me before I trust it fully! As for the beer, your both more than welcome. unfortunately with the cost of fuel these days this is about the only flying I can afford at the moment... |

Re: New Toy
okay, i gotta ask. What music is playing? Artist & song...
btw... has anyone attempted to take that thing out with a missile yet? ;) |
Re: New Toy
How fun!! I read up on a few of them. Never could find a speed that they are capable of. They would be handy at the track, just don't know if it'd fly next to bikes at speed

It's not like you can walk into a walmart and pick up a missile launcher with your bread and milk! Well not in the UK any way :rolling_laugh: Quote:
Not bike speed, but not bad.......(definitely boat speed though) |
Re: New Toy
That's impressive!
Do you have the LEDs on yours too? I would have a blast flying that at night. There would be a lot more UFO sightings in my neighborhood!! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk |
Re: New Toy
Took it out tonight.:wink_thumbup:
Strange as it sounds it's easier to fly at night (if you know where the trees are!) The lights are a lot clearer at night so it's easier to tell at distance what way it's pointing.... I did have a couple of close calls with tree's that I didn't know about until after I got home and looked at the onboard video :eek_animated: It did get the locals looking and pointing!.....lol Also I was tracking one of the tractor/lawnmowers at one of my jobs yesterday, it get very difficult to aim the camera at distance I'm thinking a set of Fatshark goggles are on the shopping list. |

It's the same guy who did the "DJI PHANTOM CHASING SUMMER TIME" Vid. Must be nice to have some sunshine and a decent subject matter too film. Hopefully all this practice will come good and i'l have some fun out on the boat this summer  With a bit of luck i'l get to film this lot this year. Get set for the Cowes Torquay Cowes powerboat race |
Re: New Toy
First round of upgrades
Better Props, Carbon fibre Prop guards, because these props are not as forgiving as the standard ones! Voltage meter with built in low voltage alarm. Oh and a Camera Gimbal Still to come, Longer landing gear (also Carbon fibre) and FatShark FPV Goggles A bit concerned about weight! I will be interested to see how much impact it has on battery life? The Transmitter for the goggles is still to be added to the phantom and hopefully the extended landing gear, being carbon fibre wont be to bad. It's already gone up from 623g to 1003g http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...207_170419.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...208_151452.jpg |

Cheers chaps :wink_thumbup:
Hopefully there will be some boaty vids soon, But ATM I can't get out of the house for all this rain!!! :shakehead: |
Re: New Toy
Rain, snow, freezing cold, clouds... ALL much better than wind. I hate wind. Can't enjoy time outdoors here with the wind we get here.

Re: New Toy
Well the rain stopped for about 10 minutes here so I thought I'd try out the new upgrades.
It was very windy! If I'm honest probably too windy to fly, But what better way to test the Camera gimbal. The prop guards are going to have to go! They are right in shot and I just know they will bug me :( Although they did show just how hard the gimbal was working :) I'm quite impressed at how level and true it kept the camera..... Also I'm not convinced that the new props are much of an upgrade??? But TBH I would only be able to say that if I flew it with the standard props in the same conditions. Here's a short video, nothing special..... but it highlights how well the gimbal works :D |
Re: New Toy
Is there anyway to modify the prop guards so that they are up close to the props? Even the props are in the video at times.
