Lake of the Ozarks?

I'm brainstorming ideas for a boating trip next summer. Instead of going back to Lake Powell (which was amazing) we have been contemplating the Ozarks.
So where to go when we are there?
Are there areas that we should try to see if we go there? I only know one other family that goes there and they go to different places every year.
I'm curious to some experiences others may have had there or even ideas of things to do while there.

I've heard of this so called "eye" infection... I believe its the infection I've gotten before when I don't see myself coming into work!! The time off is not a problem for me but the people I go with work Mon-Fri and usually don't want to take that much time off. I will say though, 20 hrs is way to far. Ozarks is at the edge of the distance I want to travel. Its all Hwy 50 straight East. Nice and flat! The two mt passes to Powell were brutal on the 1500, not to mention the last 15 mi of 25 MPH hills.

Motoxxx43--PM me if you would like--I can give you a fair bit of insight to Lake of the Ozarks--we have boated on that lake for quite a few yrs--I can tell you where to visit -- or where to "avoid" depending on what sort of trip you are wanting!

Agreed, LOTO advice all depends on what you are wanting to do. There are quite parts of the lake and busy parts.
Do you want to do water sports and cove out with family most days? Or, is your group going to be more into hitting some on-water bars? People talk about it like it's just a big drunken party lake but actually all the bars are family friendly during the day. Most bars have arcade games, water trampolines, or something for the kids to do. Another great benefit of LOTO is the variety of lodging choices. You'll be able to choose from a hotel or condo with a slip on a public dock or you can find a house with a private dock. Everything revolves around the lake, it's a great atmosphere.

I've done Powell as well. Both places are awesome just completely different.

I love loto. I go there a lot for work and pleasure. Check out funlake.com. There is something for everyone! Be sure to post here when you're going and also check out Frankie and Louie's Beach Bar. Awesome if you have kids, 10 mile marker. Southwood shores condos are a good lakefront economical place to stay at the 12 mile marker. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Thanks for the input folks! As for what we plan to do, I am up for the whole experience. There will most likely be a group of us, similar to when we went to Powell. They like the watersports. I would like to do some people watching for sure. That an the lake side activities. I've heard of casinos and stuff like that.
A buddy I know takes their Fountain there once a summer to watch some boat event, can't recall the name of it. I was told Liquidforce has a super cool wake board event as well.

Yeah, they have an event there. Nothing that big though. Couple really fast boats. Some guy this year set a new world record. No biggie, only 224 mph in a pleasure boat.

Lake of the Ozark Shootout | www.lakeoftheozarkshootout.org

224 mph run by My Way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejhKHRkWsys

107 mph pontoon boat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJzSr3G61Bo

Then there is Aqua-poluza too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBrrgG8cJhQ
