Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
Mine went in our heated garage three days ago... Sad to see summer gone. It takes me a couple hours to get her all situated so I wait as long as I can hoping Ill have another shot at getting out on the water. But with 8 inches of rain this weekend in the forecast. This winter is here.

My gets done on Monday. I'm paying marina to do it from now on. Then the following Monday drop off 1 piece of upsolery to get done. Then off up north to my dads house inside his garage.

Mines in the farm shop but not winterized yet. With harvest starting I'm probably done for the year though.

One down, one to go. Weather is too chilly to go out in now. Sail boats were tearing it up yesterday though!

The meteorologist are calling for 90° tomorrow down here. I guess that has not happened in the past 5 yrs. (90° after Sept 29).
I kinda want to take the 250 out tomorrow an run the fuel out of it. I can do the winterization Tues. PS... I got a roll of 14'x128' 7mil shrink wrap. I wrapped the SC21 the other day. Not bad for my first go at it and doing it without help. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2 |

Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
I have been travelling out of the country for the past 3 weeks, but its still beautiful here -- I could've easily been boating. I have been kneeboarding without a wetsuit in mid-October once or twice. Looks like that could be possible this year, but the winterization is set up for a week from tomorrow :( .
Maybe I'll cancel the appointment and just go boating that day instead:wink_thumbup: |
Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
Harbor Hop tomorrow, then winterizing on Sunday. Always sad when the pink stuff comes out but it was a great season.

Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
Need to get going on mine here in GA. I was actually looking for info by searching "winterizing" but didn't come up with much except threads like this one. Do we have a "sticky" on it somewhere? I need to get off my butt and contribute to get access to more info. I have some work I want to get done this winter!

Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
There are many ways and many more opinions on those ways. :rolling_laugh:
Here is a good example of the basics for you to see.:) Search "winterize boat" , you'll find lots of threads.:wink_thumbup: |

Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
so that one tutorial said they drain the antifreeze back out... I left mine in, figured the more surface covered by it, the less surface to rust! what are your thoughts. Also - did not have time to find fogging spray. Any suggestions? can I spray wd40 in the cylinders thru the plug holes? Still need to do the tune up and rebuild the carb. I thought about pulling the carb to rebuild it inside and sealing up the intake to keep moisture out? Do you guys seal your intake or exhaust in any way over the winter?

Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
I don't fog or seal anything. Waste of time and money. My opinion, another scare tactic to get people to spend more money on their special "marine" engine. I drain the block and pull all the plugs, replace them, then pour antifreeze in till it comes out the bottom. Even doing that is more than we ever did to our race engines and they never froze or rusted.

Re: So....when do you put your boat away for the winter?
Humidity in your area plays a big part in the fogging process.
High humidity , combined with fluctuating temps , owners usually fog the engine. Low humidity , dry conditions , owners usually don't fog in my experiences. I personally fog. I'll spend the extra 5 bucks and time for the piece of mind. Course , I'm really anal with my toys too.:rolling_laugh: I fog everything including my mower , generator , ATV , etc all the way up to the boat. |
