I see on the news this morning that the golf was abandoned in Arizona! Snow in Arizona, what’s that all about???

Re: Snowing !!

City of Tucson is at 5000 ft elevation and it is winter. the hills surrounding it often have snow on them this time of year, but it's a fluke when it hits the valley floor and sticks.

I lived in Phx back in the mid 80's and we had a snow storm that dumped 1-2" overnight....shoulda seen all the idiots with their bald tires trying to get to work.

Motoxxx43 02-21-2013 04:46 PM

Re: Snowing !!

Oh, maybe that is why the majority of drivers in my locale drive so poorly in the snow!

Snow has melted off the roads here and is slowly melting out in the prairie all ready. Didnt get much of a winter. That is bad for the lake in the summer!

ColoradoDiablo 02-21-2013 05:14 PM

Re: Snowing !!

You got that right Moto :shakehead:
We ended up with about 3". What a let down. We need a good 4-5 ft like we had in the spring of 2007. But I'm afraid it is already to late to help much.
We're going to be hurting for well water for sure.

Looking like the boat might be in the garage all summer

Yeah I'm not so sure about that! I've seen this lake pretty low before. Didn't care for it. Better than no lake though!

wanna see low ?

Those poles you see across the lake are ones that hold the docks

Water goes all the way up to the tree line in the summer

That is awesome! I looked at those pictures from the other post. Pretty crazy how that happens. Ill have to get some good photos this year of our local lake to share.
The water in this cove should be up about 10' above the frozen spring.By April or May that is. I took took this Feb 5th.

What did you wind up with down that way from this last storm Moto?

Motoxxx43 02-26-2013 03:10 AM

Re: Snowing !!

Just a few inches. 2-3. Maybe 2 yesterday. Deep drifts though. They make it fun to 4x4 in.

2-3" the last storm. Maybe 2" yesterday. Wind blew it all into drifts.

About the same up here. I guess it's better than nothing at all , but I sure hope it dumps on us soon :)
We all need it in this part of the country.

Woke up to this! Not a whole lot but its something! Everything coming into the reservoir now stays here to built the level. After 3/18 whatever water coming in goes out the dam down stream to the farmers. The parks and rec office told me they are up 15' from a month ago and expect to be up +/-10' by 3/18. Still behind average level for this time of year but March, April and May have been known to produce some precipitation!

Snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have had over 4 feet of new snow in two weeks. Please stop snowing! Where is summer? I want to play on my toys!

Re: Snowing !!

You best move! Summer aint gonna show up in WI for a long time!!
Send all the snow you want this way. We aren't even at 50% of normal snow pack here in CO.
Lakes are all lowest I've seen in over 30 yrs now.
I hope it dumps like crazy!
Apparently my snow dance hit the wrong spot!! LOL

Motoxxx43 03-07-2013 03:19 PM

Re: Snowing !!

The water level in 04 or 05 brings back some memories. The level got so low so fast that the moss and stuff took up the shoreline where the water once was. It did not smell too good! And there were not very many coves to enjoy. Further more the trees and stumps sticking out of the water were bad. Not to mention the ones hiding directly below the surface.

Re: Snowing !!

Snowing again!!! Today and tomorrow.
I saw in the paper the Arkansas and Colorado basins have the 3rd lowest snow pack since 1975. I wish I knew where they get this info. Everything I find is not showing such an extreme number...

ColoradoDiablo 03-23-2013 04:07 PM

Re: Snowing !!

You don't believe it come to my house!!!!!!!!!!
We haven't had sh-- all season. I'm right in the middle of the Arkansas Basin.
It is snowing today:) Hope it dumps 4ft!!

Motoxxx43 03-23-2013 05:21 PM

Re: Snowing !!

That is a shame. If you are familiar with Rye/Colo city they are about 45 min south west of me. They get dumped on. 19" in one snow storm. 12" in another. Only thing is the snow melt flows down the St Charles which runs along side the reservoir and runs out east to the farmers. That St Charles will be raging from now till June. Then it is dry or just a trickle.
On a side note my metro area is having us do water restrictions voluntarily. Even addresses water on even days and odds water on odd. No watering 8am-8pm. Again, voluntary. The farmers are really upset, as they should be. Farms with 10 plots are only going to be using 6 due to their water restrictions- mandatory. AND the 4 golf courses in town will have the most beautiful grass you have ever played on.... Interesting how that works....

ColoradoDiablo 03-23-2013 05:27 PM

Re: Snowing !!

We don't get snow up here ......you don't get water down there. It sucks for everyone.:(
Far as the golf courses , you know how that is......"Money talks and bull---- walks"

Re: Snowing !!

I don't know about what's going on in your neck of the woods Diablo, but we have been under extreme winter weather advisory due to high winds an blizzard conditions. There are numerous school districts closed and the rest are all on delay. So far I have yet to see ANY snow!!! I'm thinking the weather guys over exaggerated this "storm". Anything hit you yet?

I'm hoping the weatherman is wrong (again) with our forecast for heavy rain & possibly snow here later this week. I'm sick of seein' the snow....

ColoradoDiablo 04-10-2013 04:23 AM

Re: Snowing !!

Have you had a normal winter up there in the northeast Mikey?
Seems the weather pattern has moved farther to the east a lot , and maybe more to the north too , around here.
I remember 5-6 ft of snow on the ground around here not that many years ago. Now we are lucky to see maybe a 2 ft storm all year long.
This storm now is the biggest we've had all year! And it ain't more than a foot.
Don't get me wrong , I love the warm weather. But without good snowfall around here , there is no water in the lakes for my favorite pass time:).........and we all know what that is!!

mikeyt 04-10-2013 06:12 PM

Re: Snowing !!

I do understand the need for the snow pack in your area with the water issues so its a good thing you're finally getting some of the snow you need out there.

Around my neck of the woods, for the most part its been fairly normal with more regular snowfall rather than big dumpings but the last couple of weeks (with the exception of a couple of days) has been nothing but rainy weather & now they're saying we may get snow again starting tonight thru Saturday. The local groundhog said we were in for an early spring but i understand someone up here assassinated the little bugger for fibbing to us. Temps are well below seasonal here lately so it means everything, including my veggie garden, will be delayed this year. :(

Still no boat in the water for me yet. It's getting close, but not quite.

Here's a pic from yesterday of my bay.

I live under the red arrow... Which is quite handy for finding my way home after dark! :rolling_laugh:
