Back again ...

Alright ... who missed me ... or .. whos aim is starting to get better? :shakehead:

Anyhoo, for anyone that knows me I posted up a thread on here back in late February about the "signs" that my work was slowly starting to go belly up. Well it turned out about a day later we had a meeting at lunch time which informed all the employee's that they were going to close on March 31st, 09. So me being well... me and keeping my friends in the loop of my job on Facebook, posted up that my work was going to close.

(FYI - for those that don't know, it was nothing negative, purely stating the facts of the place closing).

SOMEHOW.... (and to this day I still don't know how), the owner of the company saw what I posted on Facebook and prompty fired me at 8am Friday the 27th of February.
That same day, Friday afternoon there were local TV news crews wanting to film and get a story on the closing. Yeah, that wasn't me that did that. Guess who got the blame for that one. ME.

Which brings us back to all the details I had written in that thread way back when and I didn't need anymore "negative evidence" that could be used against me if the owner decided to take legal action against me for what I had posted or possibly done w/ the news crew. I have just seen what "big brother" can do on Facebook and I didn't need this webpage to be brought ino the mix as well. So I asked ShabahZ250 to nuke the thread and hope they didn't see it at all. Never know what could be Googled and used against you.

Since that day, I have spoken to a lawyer and what the owner did to me was NOT grounds for immediate dismissal and I'am currently waiting for the Ministry of Labour to open up my case against them. Basically looking for severance pay. The lawyer stated that legal fee's would probably outweigh what I would ultimately get in the end. So I didn't bother to go after the owner in a court.

The place had a potential buyer in mid-March, but haven't heard on a purchase yet. The place will either close May 15th, 09 OR be taken over on that day.

So in my time off, I have since written the entrance math/english exams for George Brown College in Toronto and have been accepted into the Heating and Air Conditioning Technician Program starting in September 2009. I know nothing of it, but it pays well and a trade seems to be the better option over some desk job kinda thing.

As for me having about a 2 month absence from this page, honestly, I haven't really felt like talking about boats or boating related items. I have been focusing a lot of my online surfing time to either looking for a new job or looking around on R/C (radio controlled) related webpages. It is an addicting hobby to say the least... lol.

I still hope to have the Diablo back on the water this summer, but paying for winter storage / spring un-winterizing and insurance when you aren't employed right now. Well it sure makes you reconsider if its worth it or not.

So what did I miss in the past 2months? I'am already weeding through the Joke of the day thread in the Lounge .... :rolling_laugh:

Re: Back again ...

Welcome back Ryan! Again, sorry to hear of the situation and I wish you the best of luck in the future. One thing you shouldn't have to worry about - HVAC is probably ALWAYS going to be around no matter what the economy does!

You haven't missed much. We've all been trying to get "summerized" but the weather has been playing games in most locations - hot day or two in March, then a cold, rainy spell, then a hot day in April, and another cold, rainy spell...

One thing's for sure - there's been a lot of new members joining and a LOT of new threads. I was traveling a bit over the last month, and somehow had 2 pages of new posts that I couldn't seem to catch up on!

Good luck with everything!

Thanks! Yeah I hope everything works out in the fall.

The one good part about being unemployed, weekends are now open. :wink_thumbup:

We had some snow the first week of April (april 5th i think it was) and then it was gone a few days later. It is getting really nice out and I have been out on my mountain bike a few times. I hope to get somewhat in shape before summer ends... lol.

I managed to get caught up on the Joke thread... man there are some good ones in there !

Yes, you have been conspicuous in your absence... :)

Good to hear the Ministry is getting involved. I was pretty sure your employer didn't have grounds to fire you, hopefully you'll get something out of it.

I'm getting my Shabah out of storage in 8 days. Can't wait. I hear the ice has finally left Georgian bay, so it will be possile to be out on the water next weekend. It'll just be damned chilly! :D

Re: Back again ...

Well, I'am also waiting to hear back from an employment staffing group in my town about possible Second Career funding options for my course. If I can get the goverment to pay for my schooling ... SCORE!

Second Career info for others that might not know what it is:
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/tcu/secondcareer/

I kind of got accepted to college without FIRST checking with the staffing place to "get me started" into the Second Career program... WOOOOPS. Hey, at least it shows that I'am capable to get back into school!! That should count for something...heh.

My Diablo probably won't see light till about June, probably the 2nd weekend as I have a wedding to attend this coming long weekend and another wedding June 2nd.

I had thought about taking the small engine / marine mechanic course offered by Georgian College. I still would like to just for the knowledge. :wink_thumbup:

Awesome!

I have a buddy I still need to contact to "tag along" with him for the day to see exactly what he does. It is part of the Second Career funding thing. He is into commercial / industrial.

But yah, the $$ was a bit of a lure. That and well its something new to learn.

($ = bigger/newer Mariah...:wink_thumbup:) LOL!

Re: Back again ...

Well,

Ironically im working again. :wink_thumbup:

At the same "building" that I was let go back in February. Doing the exact same thing I was doing before. There are new owners that took over the business and things are looking up to say that least.

So after my former boss quit on monday morning (didnt like what the new owners offered), they called me back in to help out.

So now that Im working, guess its time to finally think about getting that Diablo out of its winter home and into the wet stuff! :D
