ipod transmitter
 

Has anyone out there used an ipod transmitter on their boats? I have one and I'm trying to use it in a method that would allow my stereo and my friend's adjacent boat to pick up the signal. I know these things are extremely limited in transmission strength. Should I stay on lower freqencies? Higher ones? Make any difference?:confused:

It's pretty nice having 3800 songs at your fingertips....because a dozen or so cd's just doens't seem to be enough!

The signal strength should be indepedent of the broadcast frequency. The main thing to consider are frequencies which are in use by local radio stations. You want to choose one that broadcasts at a frequency that is failrly well isolated from all the local radio stations.

I have no idea on actual transmission distances. Mine works well in my boat.

Same here... I have a Belkin charger/transmitter that works well, but I don't know the range. As Z 202 said, the most important thing is to find an area on the radio that doesn't have a station near it, otherwise you'll pick up the radio and the ipod or get terrible clarity.

I'll try testing the limits of the transmitter in the next couple of days and let you know.

My wife uses the Belkin i-pod transmitter in her Ford Escape and we used it in the Mariah until i just recently upgraded my deck to a Pioneer unit that came with the i-pod cable. The transmission distance was limited, although i could check the exact distance for certain when she gets home from work tonight. She generally used it with the lower frequencies but it should not make a difference. The clarity on it wasn't the greatest though....i always thought the sound was 'muddy' no matter where we used it.

I've had 2 transmitters and used them both in the car and in the boat. The FM transmitters that have external power are much better than the wireless ones that work off the Ipod's power. As far as frequency, it shouldn't matter is you are within speaking distance of the other boat. It is more important to find a frequency with pure static.
