Careers
Here's a great way for us to all get to know each other better. What are your full-time careers?
I'm a graphic designer & photographer in the healthcare business during the week, and a freelance media producer during my spare time (when boating season's over!) What about everybody else? :) |
I'm a sales manager for a commercial spec lighting manufacturer most of the time during the week, and a professional boater in my spare time;)!!
I manage one of our largest accounts - Macy's (Bloomingdale's, etc.). I was previously a design engineer for 8 years with the same company. I'm loving the sales side of it! Not a whole lot of travel, just enough to not tick off the wife yet see most of the country! I get the benefit of flexible hours (although I'm always stuck with phone forwarding to my cell, and the darn crackberry for emails) so I'm usually able to take advantage of nice days on the water:) |
I am a cost analyst for a Sunoco Chemical Plant. I dock in the Beaver River and living near the Ohio river, I spend many evenings and most weekends on the river.
|
Middle management for a HUD management company
4 kids boy, boy, girl, girl, 13, 15, 16, 17 (i used to like my daughters before they become teenagers...hahaha) there are about 20 lakes in my county alone so we usually hit a different one every couple weeks one is 4 miles driveway to launch that is nice for weeknight evenings, can be inthe water in about 10 minutes |
I work for a GMC Pontiac Buick car dealership in the parts dept. I work the front counter for the most part, but occasionally I help out at the back counter. Course, most of my "work" days are spent chatting on boating forums anyways. :D
Never married, no kids... I bought my Mariah over buying the girlfriend a ring. hehe :p I think I made a better choice, she begs to differ... lol. When im not boating, I enjoy snapping some pics for a photo challenge webpage or just being somewhere and snapping away. Camera I currently own is a Nikon D50 w/18-70mm lens. Also, enjoy running r/c nitro cars and running electric's indoors in the winter time. I have enjoyed everything boating since I was old (and strong) enough to drive and pull start a 6hp Johnson outboard (10-15 age ). Finally found a decent used boat last year and bought it (my Diablo). Never considered ownership of a boat in my teenage years, but looking back on it today, I wish I had bought an older 14ft 50hp outboard. I enjoy going to the Toronto International boat show, enjoy walkin around wharfs, enjoy looking at other boats. Thats my lil story :) |
I'm a laboratory instructor at my alma mater; the University of Waterloo. I teach everyones favourite subject: Physics.
My father was an auto mechanic, so that's where I got my love of all things that go fast, make noise and look good. ;) Like many who grow up in Southern Ontario, summers on the lakes have been a way of life for me. I've been coming to our family spot for over to 30 years and other cottages for more than that. Like 180diablo, I was running around in aluminum fishing boats long before I began to drive. |
I am Detective Sergeant for the Kentucky State Police. When the wife and I both have days off together you can find us on the water. We spend most of the time at Lake Cumberland with our three kids.
|
I'm an equipment operator for an underground construction company that specializes in horizontal direction drilling. My wife and I bought a 1997 179SE Talari this year and its our first Mariah. Except for having to replace the gear end yoke, yoke seal, u-joints, gimbal bearing, and shift cable we've loved the boat.
We usually hit Sooner Lake, Kaw Lake, Keystone Lake, Tenkiller and Carl Blackwell in OK. The bigger Corps lakes are just now getting where you can get on them. Besides boating I also hunt, fish, and scuba dive. ~J |
jeez....am i the only one here with a real job? :D I've been an property insurance adjuster for about 17 yrs now, was a field adjuster for about 12 yrs and now as an examiner (i oversee claims work done by independant adjusters) for a large Canadian insurer. I work from my home office which is great cuz it allows me to cut out a little early & go boating once in a while.;) Hopefully my boss isn't reading this though....
My better half is a senior project manager for a large European healthcare company. It's kinda nice though cuz it means i can occasionally tag along on one of her trips to Europe. We have 2 teenage boys (13 & 16) and do most of our boating up in the Georgian Bay (Parry Sound) area. |
I am the Vice President of Business Development for an IT company that specializes in Software-as-a-Service.
|
I"m a construction superintedent for a general contracting company. Right now I'm building a wal-mart in Ft Wayne, IN; it takes about a year to build one. I stay at the site town all week, then go home to Sullivan, IL to boat all I can on Lake Shelbyville. Its a corp of engineers lake or about 11,000 acres, lots of coves. Fun lake!
I've been divorced 13 years, a son 23 attending Millikin, daughter 21 at Eastern IL Univ, and another daughter, 20 getting ready to transfer to U of Texas at Austin. It's a wonder I can afford to put gas in mine! Never been remarried, although I like to say I"m interviewing applicants! It's a wonder how these boats help out in that aspect! |

My gf wasnt much of a boater, but now she loves spending the time on the boat. Plus giving me directions from the bow so I dont go off course.. lol. |
I'm a small town Independent Insurance Agent and avid golfer.
We boat on the Mississippi River between Quincy, IL and Hannibal, MO. We also spend time on Mark Twain lake around 35 miles away. I'll pull the camper and my wife will follow pulling the Talari. Named the boat "Kay Sara' " after my 2 daughters, Kayla and Sarah. |
I,m a fluids engineer in drilling industry. We love our Z235talari and love to get in the water. Mostly the Gulf but some river runs aroud here. We love getting on new waters.:p

I'm in Biotech Sales working in the pediatric realm
|
I'm a Director of Engineering at Honeywell Aerospace. We develop everything from Lights to Engines and Flightdeck Avionics! Fun place, especially for geeks...
I live in Springfield, OH, but spend most of my summer weekends at Indian Lake, about 45 minutes north. It's about 6,000 acres with numerous channels. Shallow though, averages about 6 feet!! Gets choppy on the weekends, but my 202 runs right through, or on top of the chop. I can get it up to 57/58 by myself. I've been married 30 years (in about a month) with 2 daughters and 2 female dogs. My oldest child, ALicia (25) graduated from OU and Wright State w/ BS degrees in Early Childhood Education (Job market sucks) and in Nursing... she's changing from a consumer to a producer... working at Miami Valley Hospital in the pulminary step-down critical care unit. My other daughter Lindsay (22) is in grad school at OU studying to become of Doctor of Physical Therapy... pray for her:-) I plan for them to take care of me when I get old... |
Welcome aboard! Happy to see you were able to keep the boat after all that tuition! I have 2 litle ones....almost 4 and almoet 2. I'm going to patent velcro bathing suit bottoms and boat seats to keep them sitting there for the weekends. Looking forward to your posts.

Offshore work
I am real lucky - I work offshore as a communication - logistics - personnel manager doing a 3 week on 3 week off cycle. So of course I have heaps of time to hit the water in our boat. My wife works part time caring for old age people (mostly with dimentia - which is great cause thats what I think I have sometimes).
I am also co owner of a "Wet Blasting" company. Its a lot like sandblasting but with the water introduction there is no dust, plus with the German "Torbo" machine we use very low pressure to remove anything from chewing gum from sidewalks to gelcoat off boats!!! I have distanced myself from the business end of this company now just to spend more time at home and on the boat. Tony |
I'm the Training and Development Manager for Advanced Technologies and Laboratories at the 222-S Laboratory out here on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
Have been using my Fridays off to play golf, but not anymore, cuz I'll now be boating on the Mid-Columbia and Snake Rivers for at least a couple-few more weeks. I'm married with three great kids. We live in The Tri-Cities of WA. |
Hi all, I am a Film and T.V. Director of Photography, and owner of a boutique style production and post production facility, here in Los Angeles. (Hey it beats workin for a living)
