Prop Locks

Hello all,

Recently bought a new SS prop and have been paranoid about loosing it while the boat sits on a lift all week.

I was thinking about the McGaurd prop lock. Has anyone used this product and care to comment?

I realize it will only keep the honest folk deterred, biggest concern is the apparent limited use of the locking nut nylon insert.

Any thought/comment welcome.

Cheers,

Y

Re: Prop Locks

I bought a McGard Prop Lock for my Diablo a few years back, but I have yet to try it out. Originally I was going to anchor in front of my parents cottage (very shallow water), but ended up docking it at my uncles cottage instead (river / deep water). So I can't really comment on the product unfortunately.

From discussions with other marine suppliers, they told me " If the lock ever breaks and you can't get it off the shaft, good luck getting the prop off again." At least, something to that nature. Granted, the prop I have on my boat is just a generic, every day recreational prop. But I still don't trust the people around my place to not lift my prop when I'm not at my cottage.

My suggestion, remove the prop / hardware before you lift it up. Find some shallow water near your lift, buy yourself the floating prop wrench (yellow), remove the prop and float the boat back over to your lift.
