Which model do I have?

Hi, I just bought a Shabah 180, and turns out the wiring has issues, sometimes the trim up doesnt' work, console switches won't work etc etc.

Boat mechanic tells me its most liekly corrosion, and we fixed a couple of dead switches just by pulling/cleaning a few fuses.

I want to tackle each issue one at a time so I can learn more about the boat, but I don't know which manual I should be referencing for the wireing info.

How do I know if I have a Z, MX, Diablo etc?

Sorry I'm clueless, but I have to start somewhere.

\Thanks

Chris

I'll move this to the "old Mariah" section.

You just said you have a "Shabah" and if its a '96 then you have a 1996 Mariah Shabah 180. Your mechanic is likely correct as corrosion is a problem on older boats and the best approach is to tackle one thing at a time. As for the trim be sure that you are using it correctly. The trim switch on the throttle will only lift the outdrive slightly and then you need the trailer switch to lift the outdrive the rest of the way up. If the trim switch is already at its max, it wont lift any more. That said, yes those switches can wear and become tempermental.

We had the same issue with our '94 182 Barchetta. I pulled all the fuses, being careful to note which value went where, used a soldering tool wire brush on the fuse holders (best to disconnect the battery first, perhaps), then treated them first with DeOxIt, then ProGold.

As for your trim up. The trim up switch will being the drive only 30% (I think it is?) up. Drive damage can result operating it with more tilt than that. You need to use the trailering switch to bring it up the rest of the way.

If you're talking about the trim up being intermittent w/in its operating range, yet the trailering switch always works, it could be your Trim Limit Switch. That's usually the culprit. See here: Replacing Your Trim Limit and Trim Position Senders for more info.

No apologies necessary. We all have to start somewhere :)
