No criticism intended or implied Dan, I've worked on ships that would burn 200 tons of fuel a day, it's just the thought of the cost of the fuel at the prices we pay on this side of the Atlantic. I'm currently visiting the UK where petrol is £1.35 a litre which works out nigh on $10 a gallon which makes it a bit impractical to run that type of vehicle outside the USA.
I know a guy who drives an 11 car transporter, the tractor unit and trailer (empty) go 23 tonnes, with 11 cars/vans on he is near 44 tonnes and still gets about 8mpg from a 450 bhp turbo diesel, so I guess there's room for improvement.
Anyway, getting back to boats, the SX18 manages 4mpg with fairly gentle use, I love to see what a marinised, modern TDi would do pushing a boat along, I bet a 150/180 bhp motor giving (even just) 15mpg would prove a bit popular.
