5.7 inboard issues

I have a 92 Z2000 with the 5.7 inboard and I took it out for the first time this spring and the engine wants to cut out when i open the throttle full....it is not due to over reving. It feels like the engine is starting to flood itself out. if i feather the throttle on the way to the top end it gets there but if i open it up it cuts out. I was thinking that it might be the gas that has been sitting in the boat all winter as i live in ND. Any help is appreciated

Sounds like a partially plugged gas filter. Try changing them and see if it then runs OK. If it has a carb then check the filter in the body where the fuel line attaches. Let us know if this helps.

Hi chriskeller82, in addition to the fuel filter, I would check the choke and accelerator pump if you have the carbed model 5.7L.

If it only cuts out during acceleration and not at Wide Open Throttle, then WetWilly is right with his diagnosis. If it cuts out at WOT too then the filter is the problem.

You may have fixed this already, but I will chime in as this happened to me when I bought mine.

Same exact thing.. ran fine, but just after plane, it would flood kinda..

Well, for mine, the ignition cable is not one long cable. My cable goes from the key to just behind the stereo. Here a connector is used join the second length of cable to extend it back to the engine. After checking almost everything out twice, I found that the male connector was just touching the female connector. I plugged it in all the way...and no problems since!
