Default stereo

Does anyone know why a stereo would work when the boat is running but when you just have the aux switch on by itself it seems to short out?

Sounds like a fault in the ignition switch but i'm kind of a klutz at electrical stuff. Lets see what one of our electrical 'gurus' have to say...

What do you mean by "short out"? Is it intermittently on and off, or on then shuts off for good? Or maybe lights flickering as if it's about to go off? Give some details and I'm sure we'll fill you with "biased opinions" of all sorts!!

My original 95 has the stereo electrically wired to the ignition switch. The stereo works when the key is turned to the left when the engine is off so you can listen to it without running the engine. I never have to use the auxiliary dash switch.
