Default Shifting hard

Hey guys Just bought a 1994 Mariah Talari Z200, the last owner told me it has a Chevy 350 on it but the cover on top of the quadrajet carb say it’s a Yamaha 5.0, the outdrive is also a Yamaha. I adjust the idle yesterday because it was kind a high,1,500 rpm is now at 600-750 rpm but I feel and hear the outdrive kind a hard when I shift into gear is that normal for those outdrives?

You have any photos of this? I am going to assume the "yamaha" stuff is just stickers someone put on there.

I figured they are stickers on the engine but the outdrive is definitely a Yamaha.

It's definitely a small block Chevy engine. But not sure about the 350. Could have had the original 5.0 replaced with a 5.7/350. And yes, the engine carb cover would say Yamaha, just like a Volvo with a Chevy engine says Volvo Penta. Nothing about it is Mercruiser specifically. Not many of the user members here are familiar with the Yamaha setup because so few were made. You might get better answers on one of the more general boating forums.

Might be late but I also have a Yamaha 4.3 v6 tho...your issue is calcium build up on the shift fork...mine was so bad it would stall
